kiwi_ism, is this fluffy enough?
Junhong is just leaving his part time job when the friendly old lady he works for stops him, one wrinkled hand falling to his shoulder. He pauses, confusion written on his face but she merely smiles and presses an umbrella into his hand because knowing Junhong, he wouldn’t have brought one with him. She’s right of course, though it’s not exactly his fault. Even though his best friend Moon Jongup had warned him it would rain, the weather man had predicted sunshine all week long. ‘Thank you for your hard work today’ She says, hand tight on his shoulder before shuffling away to serve a patron. He steps out of the way of a rain-drenched couple, careful to avoid the wrath of the woman ringing out her dripping wet hair. He decides to listen to Jongup in future.
He steps out under the awning and fastens his jacket, pulling the zipper all the way up. He flips the collar so it hides his chin and is just about to open the umbrella when he catches sight of a familiar figure just a few feet away. It’s him. It’s the boy on the bus. The boy Junhong’s always wanted to talk to but never had chance. He sees him almost daily at the bus stop but by some unlucky twist of fate, his bus always pulls up just before Junhong reaches the stop. He can only watch as the other drives away.
But not today.
‘Are you waiting for someone?’ He asks, not giving himself chance to think, chance to chicken out and miss another opportunity. The boy looks over, face mildly surprised and he shakes his head. He’s beautiful - not that Junhong had ever thought differently but he’d only ever seen the left side of his face before. For a moment Junhong is stunned silent, taking in the full lower lip and the roundness of his cheeks. His hair is parted to the side and he flips his bangs from his eyes with a neat shake of his head. ‘Oh, no - I was just waiting for the rain to stop’ The boy answers politely. For the first time, Junhong notices a book clutched protectively to his chest.
‘Here’ Grins Junhong, opening the umbrella and moving to stand in front of the other boy. ‘Where are you headed? I’ll walk you’ The boy begins to shake his head, looking set to turn down his offer. Junhong has other ideas though and promptly pulls the boy under the safety of the umbrella. ‘Come on, it’s no problem’ He grins, not entirely sure whether it’s because the other falls into step with him or the warmth that spreads through his side as their arms brush.
‘Do I know you from somewhere?’ The boy asks some minutes later.
‘Yeah, maybe. I’m Choi Junhong’
‘Yoo Youngjae. It’s nice to meet you’
