Pairing: Yesung/Siwon
Rating: PG
Genre: AU
Summary: Sunday morning, rain is falling. Along the way, Siwon meets Jongwoon.

Not Today;

Siwon likes waking up to the smell of rain; cold air wrapping around him as he buries his toes deeper into his blanket. He stretches in his bed, feeling the taut muscles that line the length of his arm loosen a little. His sheets are cool and comforting, and there's nothing more that he wants except for a cup of hot coffee. He eyes the LED clock display. It's 8:20 AM, Sunday. 18 degrees Celsius.

The umbrella doesn't shield his broad shoulders and they are wet, left side, right side. People walk pass him with their umbrellas kept low and darkening their faces, walking briskly to find a warm place to rest. Siwon walks two blocks down without getting his sneakers completely soaked, carefully treading on the drier parts of the sidewalk. The windows are fogged. People come out from the coffee house holding Styrofoam cups of steaming coffee. He moves aside to make way for them, letting the woman with a toddler pass by with a polite smile.

Inside, it's warm.

There's steam encircling the coffee machines, and the sweet, musky smell of cocoa beans. There's the sound of metal hitting porcelain as people stir their cups of coffee absent-mindedly, making their hot coffee turn warm. Siwon bags the table nearest to the counter, where the smell of coffee and baked fruit pies is exceptionally strong.

There's a new person at the counter that Siwon doesn't know. It's not the teenager who's always there on weekends, the smiling girl with ribbons in her hair who greets him with a cute little bow. It's not the skinny boy with long hair in a ponytail who works on alternate Sundays. His tag reads 'Jongwoon'.

Siwon smiles his dimpled smile and places his order, a cup of rich coffee and a slice of blueberry pie, micro waved-warm.

Their eyes meet when Siwon pays and Jongwoon's hands are really small, Siwon notices as he presses some notes and coins onto the outstretched palm.

It's evening and the news is on, they start with the world news and there's a thing or two about oil spills and economic recessions. Siwon flips lazily through the channels with his feet propped up onto the coffee table. He ends up back at the news channel. The newscaster wears too much make up and her jacket is one size too small. She reports a murder, and the screen shows the crime scene, blue and white police tape fluttering in the wind. Navy blue policemen bustle around on the screen and god, there's so much blood on the floor.

Siwon swallows to force the lump rising in his throat down. He decides he doesn't want dinner, and pops the bowl of kimchi fried rice back into the fridge, not bothering to cling wrap it.

It's Monday. Siwon wakes up, bleary-eyed and hair tousled. He's buried under his blanket and it's uncomfortably warm. He kicks off the blanket and stares out the window, where sunshine bled in through the blinds. He didn't get much sleep the night before, nightmares weaving in and out like a snake slithering through his brain. Coffee, he thinks. I need coffee.

He walks two blocks down again, gripping his briefcase and avoiding knocking into the general rush of men and women who were running late for work. The coffee house is quite empty, and less warm.

Jongwoon is serving at the counter again, this time Siwon greets him with a bright 'Good Morning', and Jongwoon smiles. Jongwoon smiles with a twinkle in his eyes, the sides of his almond-shaped eyes crinkling. Siwon thinks that he is really pretty.

It became apparent that Jongwoon was a permanent there, handling the customers with a soft and shy smile on his face. Siwon gets to chat with him a few times, stuff like "where are you from?", to which Jongwoon replies with a secretive smile "somewhere you will never know". Siwon raises his eyebrows, and Jongwoon laughs and smacks Siwon's arm. "Your eyebrows are really hilarious!"

"Where do you live?" Jongwoon asks, on a random weekday morning where there was just the two of them and an old man sitting in the corner of the coffee house.

"Two blocks down. Red brick apartment."

Jongwoon nods, and grabs a mouthful of Siwon's apple crumble pie before attending to a new customer.

Siwon invites Jongwoon for dinner on Saturday night, he cooks steak, and it's sizzling in the pan when Jongwoon rings the doorbell. "Hey," Siwon greets, eyeing the bag that Jongwoon had brought along. "What's in there?"

Jongwoon shrugs. "Some movies I thought we could watch?"

Siwon leaves through the boxes of DVDs, all of them titles like Nightmare on Elm Street and Jack the Ripper.

Jongwoon notices the furrow in Siwon's brows. "Sorry, that's all I have in my collection. Uh, I have this though!"

He rummages through the boxes and extracts one - Kungfu Panda.

Siwon chortles and shakes his head. "We're too old for that Jongwoon! Oh shit - "

A burning smell came from the kitchen and Siwon dropped the bag and rushed to save his burning steaks.

In the end they eat instant ramyun, with some squid and fish balls Siwon had found in the fridge. They watch a sitcom on television because Siwon admitted that he didn't like blood or gore at all, it grossed him out and he blushes when Jongwoon gives him a long, strange look.

When Jongwoon leaves, Siwon dumps the dishes into the sink and pads to his bedroom, walking past the television which was reporting news on yet another brutal murder committed in the next neighborhood. Brute, Siwon thinks, and makes a face at the amount of blood on screen before turning the television off.

It becomes sort of a routine, Jongwoon coming over on Saturday nights just to chill and watch a couple of movies. They stay away from horror or thriller movies, and finish all installments of Mission Impossible in one night.

"You can stay for the night, it's really late." Siwon says as he rinses the mugs in the sink, coke making brown swirls before going down the drain.

Jongwoon shakes his head, "It isn't nice to impose on you like that."

Siwon laughs and flicks some soap suds at Jongwoon. "Don't be stupid, you're my friend. I have spare clothes and an extra mattress. You can stay."

Jongwoon hugs Siwon from behind, awkwardly, and suddenly Siwon feels his heart pounding in his ribcage. "Thank you Siwon, you're really nice."

Siwon grins and uses a soapy hand to poke Jongwoon's cheek. "Don't be silly." There's a blush creeping onto Jongwoon's sharp face, and Siwon feels his ears getting warmer.

Moments later Siwon's watching the late night news and Jongwoon comes out, toweling his hair with one of Siwon's towel, smelling like chamomile and mint toothpaste. Jongwoon plods himself onto the couch next to Siwon and watches the news intently, which was reporting the fifth murder in that month.

"Believed to be the work of a serial killer, police are trying to draw up a list of suspects and apprehend the murderer as soon as possible. Anyone with information can call the police hotline -"

"Sick fuck, isn't he, that guy?" Siwon shakes his head, turning the television off with a hard punch of the remote control. Jongwoon suddenly buries his face in Siwon's chest, wrapping his arms around Siwon's waist. Siwon stiffens.

"My mother was murdered like that, too." Jongwoon murmurs into the fabric of Siwon's shirt.

"Oh god, that's horrible." Siwon relaxes holds Jongwoon, horrified.

"My brother as well. They never caught the murderer."

Jongwoon is crying silently, tears staining and creating a wet patch somewhere on Siwon's chest. Siwon doesn't know what to do, except to hold onto Jongwoon tightly, feeling his heart soften at the sight of him being so vulnerable.

Siwon tucks Jongwoon into his bed, taking an extra moment to smooth the sheets even though he doesn't know why he had to do that. Just that, Jongwoon's life seemed crumpled, and Siwon wanted to iron it out. He swept Jongwoon's hair away from his face, fingertips curling against his soft cheek. His heart clenches.

Sunday morning comes and Siwon's back aches from sleeping on the floor. The mattress he has is hard and uncomfortable and he spent the night dreaming, Jongwoon's face weaving in and out. He checks the bed to find Jongwoon gone, leaving behind a mass of tangled sheets.

There's a note on the dining table, Gone to work, see you later. Thanks Siwon.

Siwon jogs two blocks down to the coffee house, hoping to get a steaming cup of coffee because the morning was exceptionally cold. And to see Jongwoon, just to check how he is.

Jongwoon isn't there, but the teenage girl was, pink ribbons adorning her ponytail.

"Hey Seonhee, is Jongwoon around?"

"Jongwoon oppa? He resigned an hour ago. Would you like to have your usual?"

Siwon nods, and pays, settling down in a corner. He burns his tongue at the first sip of the freshly brewed coffee. It left a bitter aftertaste. He exits the coffee house without finishing his drink. It starts to rain.

Two more murders get reported, consecutively, and every time Siwon sees the news reports he gets worried. He thinks about Jongwoon, thinks about how his heart amazingly beats ten times faster whenever Jongwoon comes close to him.

Jongwoon shows up on his doorstep a week later, when there's a thunderstorm surging outside and he's drenched from head to toe, beads of rainwater dripping off the ends of his hair.

"Jongwoon!" Siwon exclaims, grabbing a towel and helping him get dry, stripping the wet and slimy clothes off him and shoving him off to the bathroom.

"You haven't drowned in the bath tub, have you?"

"No." came Jongwoon's muffled reply above the sound of water.

"Okay, take your time."

Jongwoon comes out from the shower dressed in fresh clothes and Siwon whips around and looks at him, he's gotten skinnier.

"Why did you quit your job? Where have you been, I was so worried and there were all these murders nearly every day! I -"

Jongwoon was closing the distance between them, allowing their lips to meet and touch, Siwon held onto Jongwoon's shoulders, hands slowly making their way into Jongwoon's hair, fingers knotting with the soft strands of his hair. "I'm sorry -" Jongwoon tries to apologize against Siwon's lips, but Siwon wraps him closer and deepens the kiss.

When Siwon opens his eyes he half expects Jongwoon to be missing, like before, but when he feels the slight dent in the bed beside him, he knows he's wrong. Jongwoon's small hands rest on his chest, and Siwon grins. He's still here, Siwon thinks happily. He silently gets out of bed, taking extra care to extract himself from Jongwoon's embrace to prevent him from waking him up.

He heads to the bathroom, tripping on Jongwoon's clothes from the night before. He picks them up and places them into the washing machine, first emptying the pockets of Jongwoon's jacket.

A knife tumbles out and falls to the floor with a 'clang!’. Its tip is stained with dried blood, the metallic smell of it still lingering and accentuated by the metal blade. A Ziploc bag falls from the left pocket, containing a rope with its ends frayed.

Autopsy reports show that she suffered twenty stabs to the abdomen and one fatal stab to the chest. Miss Park Younghae died instantly...

Mistress of high-ranking politician Lee Jinwoo was found strangled in the bathroom of their recently acquired two-storey high mansion, Lee Jinwoo to be placed under police protection...

"Oh God," Siwon whispered, burying his hands deep into the pocket of Jongwoon's jeans to extract a bottle of pills. Poison.

"Fuck." Siwon swears and drops the incriminating evidence onto the floor, horrified.

"Good morning Siwon," Jongwoon pokes his head around the door, tousling his hair lazily and yawning.

"Oh." Jongwoon whispers, looking at the mess on the floor and at Siwon's look of horror.

heehee it's supposed to be an open-ending, so don't look at me like that. it's up to your ~imagination~ what happened to them :D
