I was talking with Jo the other night about God and whether or not honoring him with our service and tithe...submitting to him in all things means that we will be taken care of. We both agreed that it's not such a simple matter as that...not a formula, and that being "taken care of" is indeed a relative term ( Read more... )

The book of Job is really interesting because it is something that is often misinterpreted. You however, my dear toots, have hit exactly upon what the book is about. I learned in a class one time that this subject is called "retributive theology"... like... "retribution." Basically the deal is this... Job didn't do anything wrong and yet he was forced to suffer. He gets mad at God because of this, his friends reprimand him, saying that Job must have done something wrong to deserve it, so he can not be mad at God. The truth of the matter, and what we know because we as the readers are given the omnicient viewpoint from the narrator, is that Job is blameless and that he is still going through trials. The point is that like Jo said... God's blessings falll on the just and the unjust, and similarly, what we consider trials, fall on the just and the unjust as well ( ... )
