Hey Will - RPG Dev.

Hey so, it occurs to me that with a technical writing background and a PhD that focuses on medieval literature, I might be able to work for a game company helping to design content for tabletop RPGs. Anyone have thoughts how to go about breaking into such a career?

Why not for online RPGs? I know of a writing teacher / fiction writer who is now a content writer for a video game company in the bay area. Now, if only there was some MMORPG that had content with medieval themes... Hmm...

Online would be OK, too, but I imagine it would be more feasible too, I suppose. I was thinking of book design experience from the tech writing, but I also have computer skills. I think I'd be able to freelance in tabletop RPGs in a way that would be difficult in online - am I mistaken about that?

I can't say I understand either domain that well or what the career options are, beyond the belief that online RPGs must be a much larger market than tabletop, and should therefore have more opportunities (but potentially have more competition, be less flexible, etc.). I can try to put you in touch with the foaf I mentioned above if you like.
