Well, I just got back from trying out contact lenses again. Wow, complete and utter failure :) Just as I suspected, my right eye (the bad one) doesn't physically open wide enough to fit a lense in. Despite assistance from one of the workers there, it was a total wreck. This is ok though, because I've got some sweet new glasses on the way that ( Read more... )

That was my question exactly. But I figured the worker at the eye doctor knew what they were talking about, so I didn't ask.

Although, wouldn't hard contacts work? Those have a smaller diameter, don't they? Oh, except you can't use those with astigmatism, I think. So maybe that's why.

I'm pretty sure you can use hard contacts with astigmatism- my mom's worn them for decades. There's also gas permeable contacts which are kind of like soft lenses meet hard lenses, and they are much smaller than regular soft lenses. The upside is that both hard and gas perms will help correct your vision in the long run and you can wear them for a long time during the day. The down side is that both take a while to get used to- you have to build up the time that you can wear them.

Personally, I've been thinking about getting eye surgery, if it works on astigmatism. :)

Hmm, I remember my mom never got contacts when I was growing up because her eye doctor said they couldn't be used with astigmatism, and then by the time that they made contacts that COULD be used with astigmatism, she was used to wearing glasses and just stuck with it. I assumed it was hard vs. soft contacts that made the difference. but it must have been something else.
