It's been a mild summer so far (I've noticed, not unusual after a mild winter). We haven't officially even broken 100F, though 99F at least once. It's been a little more humid than usual.
But it's still hot. Today, for example, the heat index was at or above 95F for 9+ straight hours. It was the same yesterday, and on Tuesday it was over 95F for 11

I'm skeptical of recommended temps, too. That said, I set mine for 88 when I'm at work all day. Higher than that, and the unit has to work super hard to get it back down to the 80 I have it during the day when I am home. And I indulge in going down to 78 to sleep at night. Believe it or not, but my feet get cold at that temp in the summer, so it's nice to get between the sheets. (Which are smooth percale, not sateen.)

Oof! And now you've got me trying to recall if we ever have had (in my little lifetime, I mean) ambient temperatures and the heat index matching, and I think I'm going to have to say "No," because the humidity here is always...a factor.
