Erin just recently posted a question similar to the following and I thought it would be a good idea to mirror her request.

What books, from any period in history, would you recommend for me to read? This upcoming term looks to be fairly relaxed and I have much to devour.

If you are looking for fiction I would suggest "The Namesake" by Jhumpa Lahiri. It is my favourite book. It is a very nice light into the Bengali culture.

I also always love reading anything by Stuart McLean - the Vinyl Cafe (as heard on CBC). They are short stories. It is quite amusing and light.

Bill Bryson has been a new favourite of mine - more travel lit. A brit who moved to America.

Holy Cow was also fun - again another light travel lit - based on an Australian woman/journalist who goes to India.

If you are looking for something slightly more serious "Red China Blues" or "A Star Called Henry" were quite good.

Douglas Coupland is also a good use of time.
