On my way today from J-lem to Netanya I witnessed a car crash. It was just before a stop light, and a car on the lane to my left didn't manage to brake before hitting the car before it that slowed down for the red light. It was unnerving watching the cars smash together, the back part of the front car mashing into it, while the hood of the back car bended in the middle upward while the rest of the front squished inwards. And the sounds... Now, I did what I thought was the obvious thing to do - pulled over, made sure both drivers were okay (shaken up, but physically fine), they had someone that would come pick them up, and a warm place to stay while they waited (the front car still had a working AC), and gave them my phone number in case they needed a witness or something. The thing is, there were about 5 more cars waiting for the light when the accident happened, and all of them just drove off. Seriously, what is this world coming to? There was plenty of room on the shoulders of the road to stop, and they were all pretty much at zero speed when that happened so you can't say it would have been too problematic for them to slow down. And the noise of the crash really wasn't something you could miss even if it happened behind you. I mean, was it always like that? Did people just always turn a blind eye to the bad things that happen to the rest of the world? Where is the love? The compassion?
I have to find a way to change this. It's unbearable thinking this is the kind of world I live in.
