I don't even know what to say about it.

Living in New York City, I spend an awful lot of time thinking, "Who the hell are these Bush supporters ( Read more... )

There's an old saying that goes something like "No one's ever gone broke underestimating the intelligence of the American public" and yet it was their lukewarm response to my mega-budget film "Mr. Super Horse and Larry" that caused the series of events that led to my stay here at the KCCC. We market tested that goddam thing for a year and a half and changed it into what was sure to be the perfect film for that big ol gash. Yet it comes out and no one goes to see it. I guess it wasn't shiny enough, or perhaps it was the lack of a main character who was a petulant, god fearing, mentally disabled child, that they could see their hero in, that kept those yahoos at home. I don't know, I don't really want to know anymore. At least the French loved it.

It is indeed Middle America that screwed us all over. All over the MSU campus, Bush/Cheney signs have been popping up. On my floor alone, seven girls have Bush stickers on their doors. Two of them also have Bush photos. Ashley and I had the lone Kerry sticker, and the other night not only was it ripped off of our door, but the door itself was scratched up, and something too nasty to mention was written on our message board.

I guess growing up in Ann Arbor made me blind to the fact that people everywhere else in Michigan are on the dark side.

I guess in addition to being frustrated by the outcome, I was also poking fun at how isolated Democratic strongholds like New York can be. We as New Yorkers really do believe that we are the center of the world and this overwhelming evidence to the contrary is very difficult for us to swallow. We, for the most part, simply refused to believe that Bush would win.

Kerry manged to win Michigan--thanks to counties like Ingham (your current county), Washtenaw (the county that spawned us), and the strong support of Detroit and its suburbs. But when I was there last month things looked incredibly bleak for Michigan. I really was surprised to see so many Bush/Cheney signs out and about all over your campus.

I dunno, sister. I really am saddened by the whole thing.
