You should get to round in the NICU during school, but I would say that is not a low stress environment. Babies dying, emotional parents, etc.

I've worked Oncology for 7 years so.....

I enjoy it but it's definitely not low stress either. We have patients there for months on end getting chemo and waiting for their counts to come up. We have a lot of leukemics. It's hard when they are my age and younger(I'm in my 30s) and it's hard when you get to know them and they die. But it's definitely rewarding. And there are lots of things you can do like chemo cert, omaya chemo cert etc as far as furthering your practice/education.

Most stressful: stroke unit; progressive care unit - fast-pace, interruptions, sometimes very difficult patients, all the tests

Least stressful: occupational nursing - less patient load, more relaxed overall

To be more specific, I work in health services at a waterpark. I take care of any first aid needs for guests as well as the employees. :)

That really sounds interested. When you graduated from nursing school did you automatically go into occupational nursing or did you have to get experience first??

Stress is relative. If you love the area of nursing, you are less apt to feel stressed.
That said, I love the OR, but then crossed the dark side and am a software analyst for our hospital now. I build the documentation nurses use. Love it.

Lol at the "dark side". I spoke to my friend's mother who is a nurse and she really gave me good advice. She pretty much told me that if you work hard and get your experience you can move up the ladder.

Worst - ER. But then again I did not enjoy it one bit, not my calling. Best - clinic. I love the pace and the patient education opportunities.

Medsurg was eh.
