A new addition to the family

Well, Saturday saw 2 new additions to our household. We now have 2 Chinese Dwarf Hamsters, they're adorably cute. I did try to get one to walk onto my hand but they just sit there, sniff it and then nibble it before trying to sink their teeth into my finger! They really need to learn the old adage "don't bite the hand that feeds" lol ( Read more... )

this might be a little gross but it's just so you know (and it may not even apply, or you may already know! xD)

my sister was once given a hamster (that she couldn't keep u.u), and when she held it, it would pee on her as it moved around. i held it, and it peed on my hand too, and didn't seem to have a problem crawling between us, because that was how it "recognized" us. but i got up, washed my hands, and went back, and just by having done that, the hamster no longer recognized me. it backed away nervously and hid in the crook of my sister's arm when my fingers came near it.

so maybe you could gently pick up some of there cedar shavings and rub them around in your hand or something (hopefully they won't be too terribly dirty, hehe), maybe having that scent on them will help.

seem to be sweet little things ^^. and congrats to aimee on her job... must get one for me wittle self, now xD n.nU

ta ta ^^

Yeah, they said to rub your hands in the shavings cos their sense of smell is better than their eyes.. They don't bite my fingers now, but they're still a little skittish around my hands.. I did manage to pick one up in the tube and get him to crawl out on my hand the other night but they're pretty quick and my reactions aren't so good now I'm getting old lol.. He jumped onto the sofa and I thought it was gonna be tough to catch him but I got him pretty quick.. lol
