Wolves!

Feb 02, 2008 22:08

Today was my second wolf photo session. It poured rain here yesterday, so not only was there no snow, there was mud. (That's really apparent in some of my Apache shots.) Frustratingly, it was gorgeously sunny as I drove up there - until about five minutes before I arrived. And it stayed overcast for the rest of the afternoon. Grrrr. It was a bit ( Read more... )

Very cool!
So, how long were you there? And how active are the wolves? Are they running all over the place all the time?

The session ran for two hours - and of course we could see an approaching break in the clouds as we were leaving. And no, they weren't running all the time. The pack spent a lot of time just lying around. Atka was in motion most of the time, but often just walking and frequently right along the fence line. A lot of the running was in pursuit of tossed meat. Atka's the most habituated to people, because he's the ambassador wolf, so he'll come right up to the cut-outs in the fence and stick his head through. I could have had a wolf kiss if I didn't step back. (They warned us that might happen and told us how to respond.)

I've right-clicked like mad!!!

Am thinking about buying plane ticket and VERY big suitcase, go to zoo in the middle of the night to steal the wolves and bring them home with me.

Thank you for posting these beauties *smewch*

I'm so glad you enjoyed. :-) And if you do buy that suitcase and come over, let me know and I'll meet you at the all-night diner. *g*

I'm glad you enjoyed. I especially like the last shot of Kyla trotting, because she looks so confident, which, as the Omega wolf, she usually doesn't.

The area where they have the wolves at the Phoenix zoo is so very hard to see anything in; the last time we were there, we were peering through the trees trying to see anything and then realized one of them was sitting on the knoll staring back at us! (Very well camouflaged!)

I adore Atka, because he looks so much like a white version of our dog, Sinji - we always thought she had some coyote in her!

I think Atka looks very doglike. His expression is so cheerful it almost makes you forget he's all predator. *g*

Thank you. :-) You should come down and do it with me sometime. (I just need to clean my house so you'll have somewhere to sleep. Or sit, if it comes to that.)

Sounds like a great idea to me! :)

I'm also looking forward to going to see the ravens up north in the spring. There will be many many photos.
