You're absolutely right about the Akita comparison. They're very much like miniature Akitas, though I think with more color restrictions. And she's just a pet. I agreed to spay her, and she's actually going to be small, even for a Shiba. Her sister was the Alpha in the litter, and she went to a show home (for I'm sure a lot more money). I might do obedience or rally or something, though. And I'd love to train her to be a therapy dog.
I grew up showing dogs and got burnt out on it. Although I still love to go and watch. The other stuff is fun though. My Mom is training one of her Corgi's to track.
I wanted my Gypsy dog to be a therapy dog, but the waiting list to get her in training was way long. There is also the issue of her dog aggression, which I would have had to deal with. She loves people, but wants to dominate every dog she comes into contact with. Not good.

(If I were a Photoshop expert, I'd find a way to get Mai and Kaiya in a picture together - I bet Mai wouldn't even give your brave girl pause!)

Did the breeder say whether or not you could show her? or is she strictly a pet?

I'm glad you aren't going to show her...I'm weird, I know, but I can't even watch dog shows.
