Politics: An Article I Think Is A Must-Read

It's no secret that Sarah Palin and I disagree on every specific point I can think of, but that's not what I'm here to talk about. I'm going to post an article, written by Sam Harris and published in Newsweek, that I hope everyone will read, because it speaks to the simple fact that whether you agree with her positions or not, whether you like her ( Read more... )

That was very interesting. The teen pregancy part was a bit off-putting to me, because I don't think it's always a mistake or a tragedy, and treating it as such has made it really difficult to talk with a lot of girls who do get pregnant as teens, but that's a side note.

Thank you for posting this. His point about elitism is especially well-taken. Maybe politicians can start reframing the arguement. I feel like a lot of the I'd like to have a beer with him voters have been told that's what they should worry about by the media, especially the right wing leaning media. That could be shifted, and now is a good time to shift it, when Bush has shown all too well that not just any guy can do the job of President.

I truly, truly do not understand the elitism issue. Seriously, I don't want someone "just like me" to run a country! I want someone highly educated! Speak five languages? Great! Have an Ivy League education? Fantastic!

That some Americans think it's bad to be smart is just sad.

Thanks for the article!

Sing it.

I mean, I sure as hell am not qualified to be president. I would like someone who paid far, far more attention to law, economics, international affairs, etc. than I did!

Definitely a very interesting article... and really, I find it really disturbing the reasons that some people would vote for her. (that she's a mother means she should be practically running the country? Yeah, there's a well thought out one).

I get annoyed too by that whole thing where if you're female you have to vote for the woman. That makes no sense... even when it was the Hilary or Obama thing, I always preferred him because I found her so smarmy and overbearing. I'm hoping that people will make the smart choice when it comes time to vote cause the fact that McCain and Palin stand a chance is seriously scary.
