I've been trying to think of the wording for exactly that since seeing it this morning. There's a special kind of stupid in there to even consider this.
I was encouraged - and, I admit, amazed - that when I read the first page of answers (after posting my own), all the ones in English, with only two exceptions, agreed with mine, though they were much briefer. One person even posted a picture of the Bronx Zoo entry gate and asked why s/he'd want to set an animal loose in the Bronx.
I have an ARC of a book called Rewilding the World about ways people might work with this -- how parks and wilderness areas could be altered to be made safer for reintroduction of species and etc. Would you like it?
Ooooh! I would love it. Thank you. Reintroduction is often a goal (the Bronx and Columbus Zoos are the conservators of the Kihansi spray toad, and are breeding them for reintroduction after - we hope - their micro-habitat can be recreated), so that book would be great reading.
Great! I got it from LibraryThing Early Reviewers a few years ago; since it's an ARC I can't PaperbackSwap it and I'm glad to find someone who'd like to read it!
It cannot be worse than here... The prime minister wanna-be's only talent is to toss her hair and swing her Gucci bag - and she's the leader of the Socialdemocrats. Working class girl my ass :|
Maybe we could just round up all the current politicians in power everywhere, give them a chunk of the Sahara to live in and run, and then the rest of us can start fresh.
Well said. These anti-zoo idjits are even dimmer than those who "free" lab and farm animals, where at least the argument could be made that the animal (individually or as a species) is not benefiting much from the situation. Imagine the damage some moron could do by "freeing" the Pink Pigeons from the Jersey Zoo...
