Has anyone else read "Women" by Charles Bukowski? Marissa? Emily? Everley? Rebecca? Maher? I'm sort of having trouble digesting this book. I love it and hate it at the same time. The adjectives I keep coming back to are: hilarious, insightful, magnetic, cynical, disgusting. Among other things, the dialogue is really good ( Read more... )

well i'm almost done with it now and i still can't decide if i love it or not. his portrayal of women is enough to make me barf. i mean, some of it is definitely true/insightful, but other characteristics of all the women in the book (which there are many) is kind of annoying, overly simplistic, obviously written by a man, etc...in general the whole thing is like watching a car crash that i can't stop staring at. but i don't know. you should definitely read it and then we can be confused together.

Yeah . . .
I haven't read Women, but Bukowksi is kind of a misogynist prick in my opinion. And yet it's fascinating/horrifying to read him because he's giving his male perspective to you straight up. He's a lot like the comic book artist Robert Crumb in that way.
