I can use Black History Month as an excuse to do this, but really, the racism on the IMDb boards and voting has been bothering me for a while. The STOMP THE YARD message boards are just gross ( Read more... )

"I used to tutor black physics students in college, and they had that look on their faces throughout. I once proposed to a publisher that they publish a cartoon version of physics for blacks."

Wow. I don't even know what to say. I'd like to know how this goes, you are much more articulate than I could be in a situation like this.

Slightly related feedback: I really want to see Stomp the Yard.

Stomp the Yard has some cool dance stuff at the start. The rest of it, not so much. But it's certainly nowhere near the 22nd worst movie ever. The idea of taking offense to a movie because it reflects a lifestyle one's not familiar with is insane to me.

I find guys like unnamed-racist keep their rep as internet asshole kings by expecting the people they're talking with to get all pissed off. Their foundation breaks down when you can calmly explain to them why they're morons.

IMDB's boards are always like that; I mostly blame the Greater Internet Fuckwad Theory for it.

Yahoo's message boards in its news section were even worse; no matter what the article was about, the discussions surrounding it always were slams against blacks, whites, Catholics, atheists, Muslims, men, women, Republicans, Democrats, liberals, conservatives, libertarians, anarchists, John Birch Society members, Ayn Rand, Carrot Top, homosexuality, heterosexuality, bisexuality, lesbianism (counting this separately because for some reason many people regarded it as something different), low carb diets, Michael Moore, the Republican National Convention, Kabbalah & all Kabbalah-related products, Hi-Def TV, the Bush daughters, wireless hotspots, the OC, the UN, recycling, getting Punk'd, Danny Gans, the Latin Grammys, the real Grammys, Jeff that Wiggle that sleeps too darn much, the Yankees payroll, all the red states, all the blue states, every hybrid car, every talk show, everything on the planet, everything in the solar system, everything ( ... )

That's funny. It's true that the Internet is home to angry people, presumably because most of them are on the Internet all day. It's too easy to make blanket condemnations of others after creating a lifestyle that never involves interacting with them.
