The Chief race was so important to Raydor and she wouldn't have thrown her nomination away on a candidate she didn't believe in. So despite the animosity between the two, I have to believe Raydor truly did admire qualities of Chief Johnson. I also understand the politics of something like this, though, and given Raydor's emphasis on Johnson's attire & attitude, I do believe she wanted Johnson to use her charm on the mayor.

What got to me was that lacking another female chief or a commander, and we have no reason to believe such exist, the next logical candidate would have been Raydor herself, because at her age she would almost have had to be senior to any other female captains (or male ones for that matter). She gave up her own chance to support Brenda, and I think your speculation is correct: she thought a pretty, feminine, likable Chief had the better shot at breaking through that glass ceiling than someone who couldn't get past captain in probably thirty years on the force.
Anyway, I really liked your piece. Thanks very much for sharing it.

Yes, this was what I thought. Should have done the research to confirm, but I was pretty sure.

Frightening what this says about our society. But I think you're absolutely correct. I hadn't really considered that Raydor might be giving up her own chance and that definitely adds even further conviction for me...that and Raydor's comment about Brenda's path to career advancement. Brenda using her looks to get ahead would be just another step from sleeping her way there.

This really does help to explain why Sharon was so apt and ready to dress Brenda Leigh up and push her towards the Chief of Police position. It's adorable. And obviously Sharon had to enjoy getting to see her Chief all dressed up...
Anyway thank you thank you thank you! Not only are your comments wonderful and delicious and long like I love, but you're willing to write me a fic for getting in to grad school. :) We should be like best friends now, probably. lol

They're so perfect for each other in a lady and her gay sort of way.
Yes! They totally are and I really hope this is developed at least a little in Major Crimes.
And obviously Sharon had to enjoy getting to see her Chief all dressed up...
Well of course! I almost made this more overtly shippy, but the politics wrote itself! I'll leave the shippy-ness in your capable hands!
We should be like best friends now, probably.
Most definitely! That's what fandom is all about, isn't it?! Connecting with complete strangers over shared interests and being best friends for life! That's why I joined up anyway!

Anyway, I'm really glad you found my piece and enjoyed it. I like to go out on limbs with characters and sometimes I even wonder if they're in character, or if its working, so I'm just glad and humbled that you like my story enough to review and stick with me. :) And write me cute little stories! :)
And also...I hadn't thought about Gavin on Major Crimes, but I do hope he's there! So adorable.
Anyway, no I'm so open to meeting new people and finding new friends! We must get to know one another! :) I'm an open book. ha

Yikes, that doesn't sound good. Happy to say I have had only positive experiences thus far!

It is! I don't stick with a series if I don't think it's well written (and I am a little snobby about that) and characters being...um out of character is my biggest pet-peeve unless the story is intended to be a complete a/u. So you're doing fantastic!
I'm an open book. ha
As am I, as you'll see by the message I just sent you!
