Note: This is going off from my AU fics and I need a name for that series.
1. Clark has reluctantly gotten desensitized to the sight of other people’s blood. Seeing his own, though, makes him freeze. He’s so used to being invulnerable that he doesn’t know what to do at first.
2. If Clark had been himself without super strength, he would probably still be in Smallville working on the farm. He might write for the local paper and he’d have joined the volunteer fire department. He’d never wanted to rock the world the way Chloe and Lex did. Sometimes he wished for that simpler life, but then Bruce calls and his vague regrets melt in a gentle wash of love.
3. He wonders sometimes if he could get away with strangling Lois because he’s Superman. Somehow, he doubts it. Besides, he does like her when she’s not driving him nuts.
4. Math was a game to him until he saw his parents’ worried looks when he was solving complex fractions at five. After that, he only used his math skills when other people wouldn’t notice.
5. Clark has been scared of many things, heights and being kidnapped to become a lab rat ranking top of his list. Now, he’s mostly afraid of what will happen when he has to face an eternity alone.
6. Clark doesn’t like to use his powers when he’s not being Superman. Too many close calls as a teenager had convinced him it wasn’t safe to be different.
7. Meeting Oliver had been his first realization that he could do something more safely with his powers. He’d really never considered how to hide in plain sight until then. He was too embarrassed to tell Oliver about his inspiration until his friend was hurt in a landslide. Clark had never seen the Green Arrow so humbled before.
8. The first time he ever touched Bruce was when a decal line snapped in mid-swing. He caught Batman and landed him carefully on a nearby roof. Batman was furious with him and Superman was too busy trying to get his body back under control to do more than blush and stammer.
9. Clark knows people make fun of his clothes, but dressing like a nerd is great camouflage. Besides, he’s not interested in attracting people with his looks because it feels too much like being on Red-K again.
10. Diana is the big sister he never had and badly needed. She has his back when there’s a problem and is one of the three people he’ll listen to when he’s upset about losing someone he was trying to save. Bruce and J’onn are the other ones.
11. English and writing were a struggle. Naturally, he chose to go into journalism. This wasn’t to be stubborn, but to do something that was truly his rather than Kryptonian, like math.
12. Every evening he’s at the manor, he helps Alfred with the dishes. Alfred was mildly shocked the first time Clark stuck his hands in the hot water, but this was one of his chores at home and he misses it. It gives him a chance to talk with the other person who loves Bruce as much as he does. Bruce will wander in sometimes and tease Clark about his plebian tastes. Alfred delivers one of his patented setdowns and Clark just grins. He’s a lot more relaxed with Bruce now and besides, Bruce follows up his teasing by standing behind Clark and wrapping his arms around Clark’s waist. He’d put up with a lot more than some mild teasing to see Bruce looking so happy and relaxed.
13. He doesn’t think people realize what a control freak he is. Clark is simply interested in controlling himself, rather than the world around him. He’s learned to hide his abilities to the point that in an emergency, Clark sometimes has to remind himself that he can do what needs doing.
14. Clark’s glasses help him differentiate in his own head between being Superman and being Smallville. Bruce sometimes finds them amusing but insists that they come off the second they’re alone.
15. Clark loves to garden. It makes him feel connected to the place that, willy-nilly, has become his adopted home. It’s also a socially acceptable way to get really, really dirty.
16. J’onn has become a great friend. Clark thinks he’s lonely and misses his home, so he sits and talks to J’onn whenever he can. It’s interesting to learn about Krypton, though he’ll never know it first hand. When J’onn told him it was completely destroyed, he’d gone to the Fortress and just stayed there for a few days. He hadn’t really done anything, he’d mostly spent his time writing down everything J’onn had told him and wandering in circles. His League communicator’s summons finally dragged him back. Batman said something rude about vanishing acts, J’onn had looked at him, Clark nodded and they got to work. He didn’t tell anyone until a few years later.
17. Clark wonders what would have happened if he’d trusted Lex with his secrets. Would he have gone so wrong? He’d wanted to do it sometimes, but had never felt safe doing so. Later on, Lex’s digging had frightened him so badly that he’d been paralyzed at the thought.
18. When he handed the piece of Kryptonite to Batman shortly after they’d met, Superman didn’t know what to expect. He was mostly hoping Batman wouldn’t promptly use it on him. The surprised look and quiet “thank you” were a relief.
19. Working with the Justice League has made Clark feel better about being an alien. Jonathon Kent had loved his son but hated his origins so strongly that Clark had never felt as good as a human. He’d badly needed to meet someone who knew about other worlds and wasn’t evil.
20. Clark had never been able to do anything the easy way, so falling for Batman didn’t surprise him at all. Having Bruce love him back was his own personal miracle.
