4E in Golarion: The Avenger

NOTE: I am not a good writer. This is really just a chance for me to create some fun, Golarion-themed articles for 4E material. If it makes you curious about some of the 4E material, that's great. If it reaffirms your hatred of 4E, well, I'm not a good writer. Sorry.

I know its probably a "duh" statement, but my first thought upon reading the avenger was Calistria's faith. Saranrae makes sense as well, now that you posit it, especially when you couple that with some of the "cults" of the Dawnflower that have been mentioned.

Y'know, funny enough, I only thought of Calistria's faith as having avengers when I was flipping through Gods & Magic looking for more deities with them. For me, the avenger's always been kinda like the historical assassins and the holy slayer kit from the Al-Qadim book, which is so Sarenrae's bag. Plus, I kinda like some of Sarenrae's followers hunting their foes in their natural element: the dark, evil places of the world. It's so illogical it makes sense. Plus, it's a good reason to keep them secret: "um, yeah, we've got worshippers that skulk in the shadows and cut people down, and their only guide for these actions is unparalleled zealotry!"

But yeah, when I looked at Calistria again, it was a total "duh" moment. I mean, how many times does the word "vengeance" or a synonym appear in the avenger write-up and powers list? I also like the idea of Cayden Cailean's slaver-hunters, too.

Achaekek is probably another natural choice for avengers as well, but then again, it might be harder to have one in the party in that case.

I'm curious to see if you have any other connective ideas on the PH2 classes regarding Golarion. A Nethys worshiping Invoker could be a scary thing to see.

Yeah, I only tangentially mentioned Norgorber and Achaekek, since those two don't generally make for standard adventurer deities. They do, however, fit the bill for the types of deities who appreciate the avenger's skills. :P

I'll probably make the high-level Red Mantis Assassin in CoCT an avenger; I've been using the high-level sample doppelganger for now, with some flavor changes to fit the Red Mantis schtick.

Invoker's been mentioned as a possible third article, definitely. I'll count that as two votes for invoker then.
