NBA Commisioner David Stern told the Times-Picayune in a phone interview this week that it appears the repopulation of the New Orleans area is on pace to be of the size needed to support an NBA team for the long term

I sure hope they return. I'm going out on a limb and actually trusting Stern's word...
One thing that a lot of people miss in all the talk about the re-population of New Orleans is the growth of the suburbs. A large majority of Hornets season ticket holders live not in the city but in the surrounding areas. Those same areas are mostly all back up and running, because in large part they escaped the flooding seen in the city itself. Plus, the Hornets had set records in ticket sales this summer (I credit that to the excitement around drafting Chris Paul).
As for the players, I noticed something similar this summer. I noticed that the Hornets had truly become New Orleans' team. PJ Brown is the only holdover from the years in Charlotte, and he's a hometown boy (went to school at LA Tech and has a house in Slidell). Chris Paul has the chance to be the face of a new New Orleans. We knew the team would rebuild; now, we'll watch the city do the same.
