Notes: I don't do angst, but this came out so well. One of the few fics I'm actually proud of.
Eeteuk thinks it's because they've known each other for years that it's so easy. The touches, the glances, the small knowing smiles that were only meant for the cameras become natural behind the spotlight, in the shadows where it's not Eeteuk and Kangin, but Youngoon and Jungsu. The boundaries between friendship and something more are beginning to blur and Eeteuk isn't sure if he's doing this for just the fans anymore.
Eeteuk is far from stupid; he knows what he's feeling every time he meets Kangin's eyes. It's like butterflies, but so much more; a lot like the feeling from roller coasters or sky diving. It's like he's freefalling with nothing beneath him and all he is surrounded with is the open air and the intensity that is Kangin.
He won't call it love because he's still young and what did he know of love anyway? He moves away instead, pushing himself free of Kangin and the weight of guilt that presses against his shoulders every time he pulls out of the younger's grasp. Tries to ignore the hurt look on Kangin's face and the loud roar in his ears of his own heart shattering bit by bit.
So he's not surprised when Kangin grabs him after a performance and locks them up in a dressing room to 'talk'. Which Eeteuk is thinking is more like a 'yell' with the way Kangin's face is turning a bright shade of red and Eeteuk's ears are starting to ring because Kangin can be deafening when in close range.
Kangin has every right to be angry, so Eeteuk stands there and takes everything that Kangin dishes out. He deserves it; every rebuke, every curse and Kangin knows them all. It hurts more than a whip to the back; more than being boiled alive. Because it's not his body that's hurting, it's his heart.
Finally Kangin leaves and Eeteuk falls to the floor, eyes filled with tears, dead hopes and unfulfillable dreams. He wonders idly between sobs if he's still freefalling, because it feels more like he's finally hit ground.
