It's too early for this list...

...but one of my magazine is making me compile a Top 15 discs of the year. After careful deliberation - well, as much as I could do with only a day and change notice - here is the list that will run in Metal Hammer next year:
  1. The Sounds - Living In America (New Line)
  2. Cursive - The Ugly Organ (Saddle Creek)
  3. The Mars Volta - De-Loused In The ( Read more... )

What's so great about The Sounds? They're from here in Stockholm and as much as I want to like them, I find them to be incredibly trite, full of clichés and not very original.

What's so great is that they wrote an entire album from front to end that makes me dance like a school-girl. As someone who has listened to nearly 1,000 new CDs this calendar year alone, I can't tell you what a rare quality this is.

Killing Joke came out this year? Is that not the same band from the 80s?

No Paybacks?

No Fountains of Wayne?

That is indeed the same Killing Joke, and the new album is brilliant.

As my friend said, yes, it is the same one. With Dave Grohl on drums, no less. (Wonder if they're doing "Eighties" on tour... LOL)

Never heard the Paybacks, not big on FoW. Solly.

Actually, most everything on there doesn't get much airplay, with a few exceptions late in the night on CD101 or on their specialty shows.

Have the band put out a full album instead of an EP and we'll talk. Most EPs didn't even make the short list. The fact it's on there at all shows how good it is.

I like Stiffed and all but I think Electric Six should come before it. I'm feeling The White Stripes - hardest button to button. Oh did that one band (can’t remember the name) that did that one song Fuck this band and it has that one dude say Adam is something, can that make the list? I like that song. Gay bar = classic. Good times, good times.
