I love books.white_maskAugust 17 2006, 02:14:41 UTC
Oranges Are Not The Only Fruit, The Bean Tree and, The Secret Life of Bees, Pigs in Heaven- all because they're beautiful, sad, yet warm stories. They make me smile and want to cry so much at the same time. They're all amazing.
1984- because George Orwell is really smart, and a fascinating read.
Leaving The Saints- you'll learn something about Mormonism, and Martha Beck is a smart insightful women, and it's nice to have women to look up to. Also, Expecting Adam, by her as well. I haven't read it, but I am 93 percent positive it's amazing.
Little Alters Everywhere, The Divine Secrets of the Ya Ya Sisterhood- a heartbreakingly honest account of life. The book sucked me in completely, it's well written.
I'll have others another time, but right now I have a burning need to recommend that you read Civil Disobedience by Thoreau. It's really short, it's about how the government and disobeying it, it was written in the 1860s. I haven't finished reading it yet. Another one, Walden, also written by Thoreau, is longer and slower and less direct. Advocates Voluntary Simplicity. I can't decide if you would like it or not, but it's worth looking into. Have you read A People's History by Howard Zinn? If not, read that.
