No TV? Me? Seriously?

So I'm thinking about cancelling cable. Seriously. No, don't look at me like that. SERIOUSLY! It's a combination of a lot of things, really. We've been talking about it for quite a while, but we got a first taste of it today--there's a weird buzz coming through the digital cable and it's not going to be fixed until Wednesday. So we've been ( Read more... )

Well, I've been without anything more than an antenna for over a year now, and I've been doing quite well, but then again I download a lot of stuff online. It's nice to be able to not have my life dictated by the TV schedule, and to not feel any real need to watch stupid informericals because it's the only thing on and I'm just so used to staring at the TV. Now I stare at my computer monitor.

I've always wondered about dropping cable.. My wife would never let me, but my take on it is, the writer strike is already making it so the "popular" stuff isn't being produced any more, so unless you're an American Idol junkie... And THEN a lot of programs you can find on the Internet and watch there for free...

So, I think it'll become harder and harder for cable companies to retain their customers as everything starts streaming on the web.

I've been thinking about it, too. Once I move, that is. Right now you need cable to see the security cameras downstairs. Mandee and I were without cable for a couple months, and my first year and a half in apartments I was without cable. All I ever watch are reruns anyway, so it'd be cheaper to just get DVDs. :)

I dumped Charter about 2 years ago and replaced it with Netflix. The only problem we've noticed is that the local network affiliates (NBC, ABC, CW, Fox) don't have very good scheduling on Saturday and Sunday afternoons. They are either airing infomercials or horrible movies that no one wants to watch. But because of the lousy scheduling, we spend less time on the weekends watching tv.

Oh, and Joel has to miss the occasional Packer game since we don't have ESPN or the NFL network.

You'll still have computer access, I assume? If so, I can't see any cause for alarm, as you'll have all the information you want accessible without it.

Maybe I'll get to chat with you more. :)
