Summer memories...

Have you ever found that there's a sensory experience (get your mind out of the gutter) that evokes a season? I was on the way back home from a doctor's appointment (I hurt my arm and I'm going to have to do some therapy on it soon...long story) and picked up a diet Snapple Peach Iced Tea. The sound of whippoorwills through an open bedroom window at night. It gets me every time ... which is odd, because I'm not even sure there are whippoorwills in south Florida, where I grew up, and if there are, how I would have heard them since we ALWAYS had the a/c on and NEVER had windows open. But every time I hear them I feel like a little kid again.

Watermelon Bubble Yum reminds me of being a kid in the summer. I haven't had Watermelon Bubble Yum in a while, but watermelon Jolly Ranchers bring me back as well.

They say that smell is the sense most firmly linked to memory, and much of tasting involves smelling... So flavors and scents are more likely to be evocative than sights or sounds.

That said, when I'm outside at night and I smell trees and such, I am right back at Camp Wyman.
