That article is based entirely based on hearsay.

Anyway, I don't know how much of this past season was Coughlin's fault.

I don't buy that. I think he's waiting for the Carolina head coaching job to open. He has a home there, went to NC state, I think one of his daughters goes to school in the state. Plus he would get something with the Panthers that the Giants wouldn't give him. Full personnel control.

I think that from Cowher's perspective, there are at least four jobs out there (Carolina, Giants, Chicago, Houston) that will open up if those teams don't have good seasons next year, and those jobs are all better than the ones he could get now (like Buffalo). I do think Carolina would be his first pick, but since there's no guarantee John Fox will not turn things around, I'm sure Cowher can more readily wait for next year knowing there will probably be other good options. Those teams almost certainly won't all make the playoffs next year.

I too thank Coughlin for the 2007 season. But I can't help but think I'd most likely be found in a puddle of my own tears of joy if this happened.
