First and foremost: Never think of yourself as a 'server'. If you know what you're doing, call yourself a 'waitress' regardless of what the company handbook has to say. Server is an insulting, gender ambitious term that means you're just supposed to bring food to the table and maybe refill their drinks.

Secondly: Wear a big button that says 'Tipping is not a city in China.'

Finally: Who's the first person who waits on everyone in their entire life? Their mama. If you want better money, who do you have to be? Their mama.

Therefore - nothing is ever the party's fault and nothing is ever a problem. "Oh, honey, your holy terror of a five year old is smashing biscuits and jam and butter into the table, all over the floor, and all over themselves? It's no trouble, lemmie go get a towel and I'll have that cleaned right up."

Oh. And smile. And wear pigtails.
