with parties, and indie culture in your interests... if by some freak accident you ever end up in eastern iowa you should check out one of the concerts i help run. i can even get some of the friends hook ups on occasion. hopefully you don't end up here by any negative influence though. i wouldn't wish it on anyone else.
Thanks for the invite! I've never been to Iowa but I'm open to any place that has cool parties and interesting people. But whoa, with the last sentence... don't you like it there or by what negative influence did you come to be there? Your sentence made me think of some commercial I've seen where this couple are going on about some trip they took and one says to some random person in an office or something "I consider this a temporary exile." LOL. Are you in a "temporary exile" also?
btw, I've friended you and you'll be privy to all the things I tell my therapist and even the things I don't. Steele yourself. LOL.
Only insofar that it's assumed that I don't realize my own susceptibility to the highly virulent strain I've been exposed to. In some ways, I think my realization of it is part of the reason I'm annoyed so very often. It's sort of a morbid fascination with me. I love nice things and wouldn't want to give up anything that I have, but I have to acknowledge that I'm part of the problem also. I mean, I have to ask myself "how much is enough" all the time. The fact that the I'm privileged to purchase without thought, doesn't mean the fact that I should think, eludes me. Freedom gives us all the ability to fulfill the aspiration to attain a higher level and just like all things related to freedom, there's an inherent responsibility embedded in it. I try to keep that in mind. ;)
But, I'm sure you didn't come by for a dissertation on socio-economic perspectives or a shameless display of my own dichotomous thinking. Were you seeking the key for entry perhaps?
By the by, I've added you. And yes, you are quite right, the urge to consume for status alone is the quintessential indicator of having affluenza. My father has a version of "there's always a bigger fish" that goes "there's always Bill Gates". When that's the goal, pretty much everyone on the planet is set up to fail... including Warren Buffet and that, just seems ridiculous. At what point did everyone decide that being a millionaire wasn't the standard to be measured by & stressful enough? And when in the world did multi-millionaire become de classe

"A wealthy man may use his power to attract a woman of great beauty, accustomed to adulation. Clinical observation indicates that such women tend to be aloof, uninterested, and self-involved as mothers; they can also be competitive with their daughters, requiring constant positive mirroring of themselves. Such women are poorly equipped to mirror and nurture their children through the many challenges of healthy development."
