Bizarre day. Have been working at home a lot, haven't been getting enough rest and there are a bunch of bugs going around. Think I might've caught a bit of one, but haven't had time to be sick so haven't worried about it. Thankfully it hasn't been so pronounced that I can't function, just annoying at times. In any case, woke up late this ( Read more... )

Just before 9 a.m. on Friday, units with the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office and Maryland State Police arrived at a residence in Chaptico. Police set up a perimeter around the house for reports of a man threatening to take his own life.

The man, as yet unidentified, was reported to have threatened to shoot his wife Thursday, and demanded to speak with her during the police standoff.

The suspect would not confirm or deny if he had any weapons inside the house.

He threatened units outside the house, saying if they tried to enter “something will happen.”

Deputies began to set up a command center at Our Lady of the Wayside Catholic Church in Chaptico as the negotiator traveled to the scene.

Just before 9:30 a.m., police saw movement within the house. Phone contact was made with the suspect. Moments later, the man exited the house and walked down the driveway, surrendering himself to the authorities. He was taken into custody at approximately 9:33 a.m., ending the standoff.

No word if any weapons have been found inside

There, and I was hoping for a crazed ax murderer stalking about in the woods.

Nope, no ax murderer. I did see a couple deer running generally away from the area as I was leaving, though. For a bit I played through some scenarios that might've involved the deer and the police.

Was pretty disorienting, rest of the day felt slightly surreal. Ah well.

you know. on the morning of 9/11 i didn't follow my usual morning routine of watching the news and ended up oblivious of the whole thing until after all the planes were down. i was also in LA and feelng really helpless and i think those hours if i'd known would have been torture.... in an odd way, being oblivious was a blessing. but yeah. disorienting for sure. anytime we feel that veil between worlds a tad close to us, it puts everything into odd and uncomfortable perspective until things normalize a bit.

things back to normal now?

For the most part. The only thing that's still kinda bothering me is wondering if I'm right about which neighbor it was. The cop who I spoke to was coming back from his house, and I think it was him, but not really sure. Will probably find out before too long.
