An explicit part of obedience conditioning in a non-d/s context is the removal of choise (like basic training, as I understand it). This leads to a situation in which orders are not questioned, which is an advantage in emergencies BUT ALSO a danger, if the perosn issuing orders is not ethical. The danger and the advantage are not seperable from each other.
A part of parenting as I've understood it was to teach my daughter to make choices, and not reflexively say either Yes or No. It always annoys me in moveies etc. when people say "I had no choice." They did. And they made it. They're just trying to make excuses for the choice they made.
