assisted suicide

Okay
so I was watching house the other day and it got me thinking
and then I saw sarahs question about abortion
so now I thought I would post mine

what about Euthenasia (assisted suicide) is it right? is it wrong? does that change if the person is terminal?

It has been on my mind for a while
so I was wondering your thoughts on it.

Assisted suicide, where it is legal, is only legal if the person is terminal. And personally I think if the person is going through massive amounts of pain and their family is having to watch them die then it's their choice. Plus anyone who does decide to go through with it has to go through massive amounts of counciling and the councilor has to agree to it. So I say why not?

i believe in assisted suicide only if it is in a case of terminal instance; such as someone with barely any voluntary movement and is slowly becoming what some call "a vegetable." in these cases, i know that the victims, who are usually family members, parents, etc, would feel happier in a better place.. and it would make everything easier for their families.

But what about that case where the young girl was said to be teminal, the mother gave the go and they assisted in her suicide and then not too long after another person with a very similiar case was left alone and came out of it fine

You are right, people do get better...but sometimes they dont! My ex boyfriends sister was in a car crash, she is bed ridden for life. She can't talk, she communicates by moving her toes once for Yes and twice for no! Her day literally consists of her family, and her sons coming and talking to her and she has little to no idea who they are! Its sad to say but if she is still alive, she has not steped a single foot out of bed for 7 years! When the accident happened this women was only 34. Should she live to 40, 60, 80! Spend more then half of her life in a bed? Thats not a life, thats pain. I think the worst part about it is that she can't speak to tell anyone what she wants. There is no "Toe" code for pull the plug.

I already said if that is the case then it makes sense. So why are you arguing my point? I'm confused...lol

if this person is slowly depreciating into a sicker and sicker state, then they should know they have to sign off power of attorney to a trusted family member, who then makes the decision once that person doesnt have the ability to themself. if a person calls for it, then its the hospitals obligation to do it. ultimately, its their choice, but if they cant choose, it should be down to the family...and if they have no family, if you think about it practically, that person has to be let go.

I think it depends. Most people know what their family want! I know what eash of my immediate family wants if any of them are on life support! Its a quick question to ask your loved ones. Personally i believe in respecting what they would want!
