Thank you for the information and links. I've been wondering for ages what was going on. Feeling stupid for not reporting them earlier.

You don't need to feel stupid, the Abuse Team aren't exactly making it obvious that people should report them.

and even if you had reported them ages ago, Abuse may have just given you the same answer they originally gave me a month ago, which was their usual "there's nothing wrong with people friending" :)

Thank you for the clear guide, I was wondering if there's anything I could do to get rid of them. As a Russian myself, I really wish these bots just go away. Reported 4 of them just now!

Glad I could help!

As a real Russian, do you find it easier to notice that they're bots, or is it just confusing because you normally expect Russian people to friend you?

A little of both: I wasn't too alerted to be friended by Russian journals, but some of them just don't make any sense, so it's more or less obvious.

>>You can leave questions/comments here.

I voted in your poll since you keep track on visitors, just wanted to let you know that I found this by random surfing of LJ and not by what I actually voted for.

And thank you for doing this. While I was aware of 'random Russian friendings and some sort of meme', somebody had explained it very differently to me and they clearly didn't know that those are fake journals.

haha, yet another option missing from the poll.
thanks for letting me know :)

I've seen other people saying "It's a game the Russians are playing and they get points when you add them back" - I'd like to have a chat with whoever started that rumour!

If you remember who it was who explained it differently, please let them know what's really going on :)

I was told that too. Having no more information on it I gave that information foolishly to two of my friends.

I've already made a post in my journal linking to your tag (as I know at least 5 people on my flist who got friended too) but I really can't remember who that person was who told me about the meme.

Thank you for your reply :-)

One of my friends linked me to your LJ posts about the Russian bots. I have since followed your suggestion and reported a small handful of bots that had recently added me:

michell_weist
theressa_bugajs
cari_sankey
christelmerrick
louie_boisseau
morganhutt

Those accounts have since been suspended. LJ Abuse responded to my report to say as much, which was nice to see. I suppose that mentioning in my report that I'd followed your instructions helped to some degree. :)
