HOW CAN IT BE TOMORROW.
THIS IS NOT OKAY.
I'M NOT READY.
PLEASE DON'T SUCK, TOMORROW.
And so, six sequences I ended up rewatching as part of my *~emotional preparation~*.
The Parting of the Ways
"You will be exterminated."
"Maybe it's time."
"What've you done?"
"I looked into the TARDIS. And the TARDIS looked into me."
"I am the Bad Wolf. I create myself.
I take the words. I scatter them in time and space.
A message to lead myself here."
"You are tiny. I can see the whole of time and space.
Every single atom of your existence... And I divide them.
Everything must come to dust. All things.
Everything dies."
"The power's gonna kill you and it's my fault."
"I can see everything. All that is. All that was.
All that ever could be."
"That's what I see. All the time. And doesn't it drive you mad?"
"My head..."
"Come here."
"...is killing me..."
"I think you need a Doctor."
"Rose Tyler. I was gonna take you to so many places.
Barcelona. Not the city Barcelona, the planet. You'd love it.
Fantastic place. Rhey've got dogs with no noses.
Imagine how many times a day you end up telling that joke, and it's still funny!"
"Then, why can't we go?"
"Maybe you will. And maybe I will. But not like this."
"I'm not gonna see you again. Not like this. Not with this daft old face. And before I go..."
"Don't say that."
"Rose. Before I go, I just wanna tell you, you were fantastic. Absolutely fantastic.
And d'you know what? ...so was I."
"New teeth. That's weird. So, where was I? Oh, that's right! Barcelona."
The Christmas Invasion
"Am I...ginger?"
"No. You're just sort of...brown."
"Ah, I wanted to be ginger! I've never been ginger!
And you, Rose Tyler! Fat lot of good you were! You gave up on me!
...oh, that's rude. Is that the sort of man I am now, am I? Rude?
Rude and not ginger."
"I'm the Doctor."
"He's the Doctor."
"But what happened to my Doctor?"
"I DEMAND TO KNOW WHO YOU ARE!"
"I DON'T KNOOOOW!
See, there's the thing. I'm the Doctor, but beyond that, I...
I just don't know. I literally do not know who I am. It's all untested."
"These human beings. Consider their potential.
From the day they arrive on the planet, and blinking, step into the sun.
There is more to see than can ever be seen. More to do than--...no, hold on.
Sorry, that's The Lion King. But the point still stands!"
The Runaway Bride
"Am I ever gonna see you again?"
"If I'm lucky."
"Just... promise me one thing. Find someone."
"I don't need anyone."
"Yes, you do. Because sometimes, I think you need someone to stop you."
"Yeah. ...thanks, then, Donna. Good luck.
And just... Be magnificent."
"I think I will, yeah."
"Doctor?"
"Oh, what is it now?"
"That friend of yours. What was her name?"
"Her name was Rose."
The Family of Blood
"I don't care about this Doctor and your family, I just want you to go.
So, I've made my choice. You can have him.
Just take it, please! Take him away."
"Oh, I think the explanation might be you've been fooled by a simple olfactory misdirection.
Little bit like ventriloquism of the nose. It's an elementary trick in certain parts of the galaxy.
But it has got to be said, I don't like the looks of that hydroconometre.
It seems to be indicating you've got energy feedback all the way through the retrostabilisers,
feeding back into the primary heat converter!"
"Because if there's one thing you shouldn't have done...
You shouldn't have let me press all those buttons.
But, in fairness, I will give you one word of advice: RUN!"
"He never raised his voice. That was the worst thing. The fury of the Time Lord.
And then we discovered why.
Why this Doctor, who had fought with gods and demons...
Why he'd run away from us and hidden.
He was being kind."
"He wrapped my father in unbreakable chains, forged in the heart of a dwarf star.
He tricked my mother into the event horizon of a collapsing galaxy.
To be imprisoned there.
Forever."
"He still visits my sister once a year. Every year.
I wonder if one day he might forgive her.
But there she is. Can you see? He trapped her inside a mirror. Every mirror.
If ever you look at your reflection and see something move behind you,
just for a second, that's her. That's always her."
"As for me, I was suspended in time.
And the Doctor put me to work standing over the fields of England, as their protector.
We wanted to live forever. So the Doctor made sure that we did."
"Could you change back?"
"Yes."
"Will you?"
"No."
"I see. Well, then. He was braver that you, in the end.
That ordinary man. You chose to change. He chose to die."
"Come with me."
"I can't."
"Why not?"
"John Smith is dead, and you look like him."
"But he's here. Inside. If you look in my eyes."
"Answer me this, just one question. That's all.
If the Doctor had never visited us... If he'd never chosen this place, on a whim...
Would anyone here have died?"
Forest of the Dead
"There wasn't even anyone called Lee in the Library that day.
Suppose he could have had a different name out here, but let's be honest. He wasn't real, was he?"
"Maybe not."
"I made up the perfect man. Gorgeous, adores me, and hardly able to speak a word.
What's that say about me?"
"Everything.
...sorry, did I say everything? I meant to say 'nothing.'
I was aiming for 'nothing,' I accidentally said 'everything'..."
"What about you? Are you all right?"
"I'm always all right."
"Is 'all right' special Time Lord code for 'really not all right at all'?"
"Why?"
"Because I'm 'all right,' too."
"Your friend, Professor Song... She knew you in the future, but she didn't know me.
What happens to me? Because when she heard my name, the way she looked at me..."
"Donna...
This is her diary. My future. I could look you up.
What do you think? Shall we peek at the end?"
"Spoilers, right?"
"Right."
"Come on. The next chapter's this way."
When you run with the Doctor, it feels like it will never end.
But however hard you try, you can't run forever.
Everybody knows that everybody dies, and nobody knows it like the Doctor.
But I do think that all the skies of all the worlds might just turn dark,
if he ever, for one moment, accepts it.
"...oh! Oh! Oh, look at that! I'm very good!"
"What have you done?"
"Saved her!"
Everybody knows that everybody dies. But not every day.
Not today.
Some days are special. Some days are so, so blessed. Some days, nobody dies at all.
Now and then, every once in a very long while, every day in a million days,
when the wind stands fair, and the Doctor comes to call...
Everybody lives.
The Wedding of Sarah Jane Smith
"Can we have a look?"
"What, in the TARDIS? MY TARDIS?
...course you can, yeah."
"You came all that way. For me."
"You're so important. Not just to me.
The Trickster wanted to end your story, but it goes on.
The things you've done, Sarah. They're pretty impressive, but...
The things you're gonna do..."
"Is this the last time I'm going to see you?"
"I don't know.
...I hope not."
"Goodbye, Doctor. Until the next time."
"Don't forget me."
"No one's ever going to forget you."
