As valuable as he saw these planetside missions, sometimes he loathed all the work that was required. Funny to be thinking that as a professor and as much work he has to keep up with for students, but somehow they were completely different.
Also, he was trying to do everything possible to not show anything between him and Nyota. He couldn't believe that they had made it this long it and actually working out quite well. Not to mention, no one had yet said anything, even though he was sure a couple times it would've done them in.

In another universe, she could have taken his hand as they walked around the gardens, but now obviously wasn't the time for that. Now was the time to welcome a new member of the Federation.
Although it wasn't really her place to speak, Nyota was proficient in the native language and couldn't resist inquiring about some of the artwork that graced the gardens. It was all spiritual in nature, because although the Veloans had all but abandoned religious worship, they retained a measure of spiritual belief.

The planet was beautiful, and he could see many tourist brochures being planned right now by the marketing team. The inhabitants probably will frown and fight them off, but it'd only be a matter of time before things were approved once money was mentioned.
When they started their trek through the gardens, John couldn't help but smile when Nyota started asking her questions. Her grasp of the language was impressive for how short of time they had to learn it. In fact, she had better pronunciation than him on many of the words. His Scottish accent kept hindering him on some of the meanings, even though he typically was able to cover it up and not let it interfere. He chalked it up to stress of the situation.
He meandered over to where one of the groundskeepers explained something about the artwork.

The groundskeeper was very knowledgeable, and she listened intently to what he said, asking questions when it seemed appropriate. As the man led them on to another area, she said to John, "They really do seem happy to be part of the Federation."
