Hump day blues

It's been one of those days.

I get to work this morning and the building is freezing! The heat had gone out over night. It was probably 45 degrees inside. It's basically a brick and steel building, half of which is a warehouse, so it does not hold heat well. I asked the midnight staff if they had called maintenance? No. They called the main office and relied on the supervisor there to call maintenance. I pick up the phone and call the service number to ask if they had been notified regarding the heat. No. Lovely. I told them the issue and they replied they would have someone there as soon as possible. Half an hour later, one of the maintenance men shows up and starts working on it. Meanwhile, I am sitting at my desk in my coat and gloves.

They get the boilers going and bring out some electric heaters to use around the workstations until the building warms up again. Something happened when they plugged in one of the heaters because it tripped the breaker for four workstations, the copier and the overhead television. LSS, it took about six restarts and 45 minutes before my computer was functioning properly again. Lovely.

Around 9:15 I get a call from a Supervisor asking, "aren't you scheduled to be at the round table meeting with the area director and district director? Can you come up? " No. I am not. Check the duty schedule, you will see that I am not due to attend. He sighs and I jump in to say, talk to the scheduling office and they will verify. I hang up. About a week ago, I had been sent an email stating that the AD and DD would like me to attend the meeting. I emailed back to ask if it was mandatory. The scheduling supervisor called me to say that it was not mandatory, they will pick someone else. Fine. You do that. Apparently our area director doesn't bother to check the schedule unless he thinks you are taking too many sick days or personal days. So now I am irritated along with being cold!

I stop at the grocery store on the way home from work. I find a good deal on ground beef and pick up a couple packages, along with the rest of my groceries. I really wanted a roast chicken (pre-cooked) for dinner, but they didn't have any ready. I asked at the counter and was going to be another 15-20 minutes. I didn't feel like hanging around, thinking I can do something with the beef instead. I check out, drive home, start putting the stuff away and the beef is not there!! WTH!!! I call the store, and yes, they have it. Am I coming back for it? Hell no! I'm home, I'm not going out again! So, no chicken, no beef, I'm irritated, cold and hungry! (I didn't have lunch today)

After hanging up with the grocery store, I noticed a tiny piece of wood on the kitchen floor. I pick it up and am looking around for where it could have come from. Apparently, the puppy has been chewing on the molding around the kitchen door. Based on the scratch marks, etc...that I can see. Lovely. Now I have to figure out a way to keep him from doing that when I'm not at home.

On a good note, the last two of the three books I ordered finally arrived! This includes the follow up to the book I finished three days ago! I've been waiting impatiently. I bought these books used, the shipping was $3.99 per book, more than the cost of any of the actual books. I understand it is not priority shipping, but seriously? Why should it take ten days for two books at a shipping cost of $7.98, which is probably more than priority shipping would have been. My sister and I used book rate shipping all the time and it never took ten days for any of our packages to arrive.

I am going to go now and see what I can scrape together for dinner; and lunch tomorrow, feed the dogs, have a glass of wine and read my *new* book. I do hope tomorrow will be kinder.

books, food!, work, kodiak
