Life After College

I don't really believe in settling down. That term implies that the current path I'm on is not valid. It's not always about living your life the way people have lived before you. - Jared Leto

One of the most popular questions I've been asked since even before my graduation has been a variation on the ever popular 'what are you going to do now?' A ( Read more... )

Argh that feeling I know it well!

For now I'm sticking around in Savannah but that's just till I get my act together. I keep wafting between going back to NYC (but not living at home), staying in Savannah, and following my friends out west. I really can't say it matters to me to be honest cause I can write and/or edit films just about anywhere. But it gets so much people always asking.

So it is a normal question, then. I'm basically the same as you; as long as I can do what I want to do (career-wise and otherwise), I don't care where I am. And I like a lot of places so I think I'd be good almost wherever.

If you have the ability, then, by all means, travel. Nothing says you have to stay in one location permanently if you don't want to. If you decide that someplace is home, then it's home, but that doesn't mean you can't still travel about a lot. Home for you could just be the place you visit the most. I'd love to travel a lot more than I do, but I don't really know how to earn the money while doing so and I don't. :/

Yeah, that's a big deal. I think going into international affairs will help me with that, though. That's a definite plus, not having to pay for all of the travel.

Home isn't 'where you hang your hat' or a place. Home is where your hear is, so listen to your heart and if it's telling you that home is being a nomad or gypsy, then follow it.

Follow what you want. Now is the time for you to travel, explore, do whatever.

I think that's pretty much a standard question that everyone asks of recent/upcoming grads. But you certainly don't owe them the answer they want or expect to hear. Just do your thing. And if some day you feel like someplace is home and you want to settle down, do.

But remember, settling down and settling for are two very different things. Never let anyone try to convince you otherwise.

Went on a posting spree huh.

You're more like a nomad. I'm for not having a home. My job search isn't limited to any particular location, but I doubt that I will feel attached to anywhere. My hometown is home, but I refuse to include it in my future on a permanent basis.

lol I've had a lot to talk about lately. And I've never really understood the definitional difference between gyspy (when speaking in terms of wandering instead of the people) and nomad. But yeah, that whole permanent living thing is nowhere in my plans for now.
