The sudden gust of wind shifted the curtains as the moonlight flooded in. Its light revealed a shadow of the figure that remained still in front of the mirror. His expression was stolid as he stared into his reflection through his black eyes.

A sound behind him awoke him from his train of thought, he turned slightly and glanced at the bed where she laid. He was relieved to know she had managed to stay asleep after that encounter. Not once before had she seen his true form, he never dared to yet the danger today had forced him.

Their appearances lie to the human eyes constantly and are easy to fool. They’d see a man with short brown hair that matched with his slightly tanned skin, in short an average human that walked amongst them.

Yet this mirror reveals something different, a monstrous creature not meant for human eyes. Not meant for her eyes.

He was used to her calling his name several times throughout the day. Never had he heard her calling his name in such a panic-stricken tone. He rushed to her to find the creatures surrounding her, closing in around her as she continued to scream for help.

Tremors ran through his body until he felt his power consume him completely. He had lost his control which in turn had altered his appearance completely. Darkness began to take over his skin as a blue aura enveloped his body. Red talons developed from his hands and fangs formed in his mouth. His hair grew slightly longer and whitened completely as did his eyes. Energy formed in his hands as his yelled out in rage and viciously attacked.

In a matter of moments he had destroyed them all with just remains left behind in their place. He made sure nothing else was around to harm her, as his anger subsided he had remembered his original purpose.

He inhaled before he turned to face her; she froze with a look of shock on her face. He felt his heart tightened as he walked closer towards her, his body slowly changing to its human form. Her fear was evident, just as he neared her she screamed in terror. He hesitated before he outstretched his blood covered hand. It might have been minutes but it felt close to eternity waiting for her to notice, for her to realize that he wouldn’t hurt her.

It might have been better if he had gone instead and call for someone else to comfort her. The thought crushed him; he couldn’t stand that everything he worked for and had with her to be gone so quickly.

Her sapphire eyes glanced at him but turned away just as quickly, when the thought crept up again had he noticed her hand slowly reaching towards his. She was shaking completely; it seemed despite her body’s opposition to stay away from him had she chosen instead to reach towards him. He then took her hand and pulled her into his arms, the moment they made contact she lost any composure she had and sobbed uncontrollably against his shoulder.

He attempted to lay her on the bed but her hold on him was strong. He felt assured to know she needed him for comfort, but it shamed him to know he was the one causing her distress. As he pried her arms away he noticed her clothes stained from the same blood. There were wounds throughout her body beneath the torn bits of clothing. He had to suppress the anger that surged through him; he needed to remain calm around her.

He helped to wash the blood and bandage the cuts on her body. All the while struggling to figure out how to console her, to reassure that she was safe with him. That he was still the person she knew, that she came to love despite everything against them.

He was discouraged entirely; everything was deemed insignificant now, absolutely everything.

She sat down on her bed and faced the opposite direction of him. She was avoiding meeting his eyes and closing them instantly when he was near her. He breathed in again and walked away towards the door, he could leave from the very spot that he was in but felt it was better to leave as humanly as possible.

“Don’t.” He paused as he heard her murmur. “Don’t.” He turned around to see her facing him with her hand outstretched. “Don’t leave me.” She pleaded; he approached her cautiously despite her request. She was still apprehensive as he returned to her side, she then grabbed hold of him when he was within her reach. He sat beside her as he gently brushed his hand through her locks of raven black hair.

“If you don’t want me to, I won’t.” He replied, she closed her eyes and soon fell asleep. He lingered around the room until he stood before the mirror.

The same haunting appearance she had seen earlier was here before him. He wasn’t afraid of it as she was considering this was just another side of him. However, instead of his furious expression from before, the monster had the same stolid expression and remained as still as he was.

“Keiran.” He was startled to see her behind him, instinctively he shifted to block her eyesight from its view. He had done so many times before, but this time she was aware of it. She leaned slightly to see into the mirror when he swiftly turned her around and had her face away from the mirror. She furrowed her eyebrows, “Keiran?” As she turned to see, he pulled her into his arms and held her tightly.

“Levana, don’t look.” He voice shook, “I beg you, don’t look.” She stood motionless until she placed her arms around his neck.

“I won’t.” She murmured. She closed her eyes as she nestled her head against his chest. “I promise I won’t look.” The thoughts that haunted his mind had left him, she was afraid but stayed with him. “I…” She breathed in. “I won’t take back what I said.” She declared.

He remembered when she had first learned of his power, she was careful but accepted him wholeheartedly. Even then he didn’t reveal to her the beast within him. He then looked up to the mirror and watched their reflection. With an anxious expression on his face was the monster that held her in his arms as if encasing his last and final victim.
