[Y][FF] Summary: He just walks in to do some work; but there's a neighbor who has too much time on his hands, too easily amused and paying just a little too much attention.
***
Donghae casually twisted about in his chair as he balanced the pencil on his forehead. He sighed as he dropped it into his hand and stared absentmindedly at the computer screen in front of him. Five hours and still nothing came to mind for his term paper, instead of properly thinking about it, he decided to doodle on the paper in front of him when he barely noted the computer cubicle beside him being occupied.
He looked from the corner of his eye at the man who took out his notebooks from his bag and began to look over his notes. He sighed, he seemed to be the studious type as he looked back at the screen. Reading the seven words he had in his document he decided that it was time for a break.
"Assignments are a pain aren't they?" He asked out loud to his neighbor who barely glanced at him. "Then again, professors are worse." The man didn't reply and instead continued to scroll the mouse, he lowered his eyes at his lack of keeping up the casual conversation. He rolled his chair to his side and looked at the screen and learned his name from the document.
"You're a little too quiet Henry." He said, the man named Henry however remained quiet as he occupied himself with his work, leaving Donghae to supposedly return to his work.
The next day Donghae sat in the same cubicle and smiled as Henry walked once more towards him, however he took the cubicle two seats away instead. He repeated his movements from the day before and began his work. Donghae bit his lip but wasn't completely discouraged from the man as he switched to the seat beside him. "You don't like me?" He asked, Henry didn't reply. "Am I annoying you?" Nothing. "What's so fascinating about your work that you can't say something?"
Still nothing.
Donghae palmed his cheek as he watched Henry continue his work.
"He never says anything." He looked up at the quite chubby man across from him in a different cubicle.
"Really?" Donghae asked skeptically.
"He's been coming to this net cafe for months and I've heard him speak only one time."
"What did he say?" Donghae asked.
He shrugged. "I have no idea, it was too low for me to hear." Donghae sighed and looked back at Henry. He leaned in and looked up at his face, Henry barely looked back as he continued about.
"I think you're bothering him." The man stated, Donghae sighed as he leaned in even further, completely intruding on his personal space. Henry while keeping his eyes on the screen, leaned away until he was at a very odd angle.
Donghae then pulled back as Henry returned to his original position, he crossed his arms as he looked at him.
"You will talk." He stated, Henry paused his hands but resumed typing on the keyboard. Within the next week, Donghae tried every day to maintain conversation but Henry had basically resisted any topic of conversation. Or at least Donghae would like to think so, he was hoping that one day he'd get through to the man.
The next day Donghae, who had now gain an on-looker called Shindong, sat once again beside Henry as he sighed and leaned against his chair. Shindong suddenly came around and dropped a some wrapped chocolate pieces beside them both.
"If he wants." Shindong shrugged as he walked back to his cubicle. Donghae sighed as he started to unwrap one and paused when he noticed Henry reaching for the chocolate and unwrapping it as he popped it into his mouth. He repeated it with the last chocolates until he reached the last one but left it there on the table, apparently saving it.
"Hmm." He glanced at the chocolate in his hand. "I know."
He pulled out a bunch of the chocolates from the table and placed them one by one on the floor between their chairs. Henry couldn't help but watch his actions from the corner of his eye when Donghae smiled as he pointed at them.
"Okay, you can eat one when you come closer and talk to me. Tempting aren't they?"
"..."
"Leave him alone." Shindong chuckled as he watched the spectacle. "Don't think he really wants to talk."
"He will, no one can resist chocolates." He held one up in front of Henry's eyes, "Say one word and its yours."
Henry turned away from the sweet and pulled out a pen, Donghae narrowed his eyes.
"You're making this more difficult than this seems!" He glared as he took one of his own pieces and ate it. "You see, its getting shorter, get it while you can."
He turned a blind eye to his statements, seemed to even turn a deaf ear as well as Donghae continued his mild threats while eating each of his chocolates. He narrowed his eyes, he might have to do this seriously.
He reached for Henry's last chocolate and proceeded to unwrap it, he smiled when Henry faced him. Even more so when he noted the slight glare Henry was giving but merely shrugged as he held the piece in his hand. "I'll eat your piece if you don't talk."
Henry remained completely stolid as he always had, however his eyes continued to focus in on the chocolate. He breathed in and turned away, Donghae's smile dropped.
"What does it take?! What does it take?!" He banged his hands on the table and crossed his arms, grumpily eating the chocolate piece. "He is just being difficult on purpose."
"Or anti-social." Shindong murmured.
"Depressed?"
"Maybe some anxiety issues?"
"What's that got to do with it?" Donghae shook his head and said. "He looks lonely though, probably has no friends."
"Not at all."
He froze and turned at the once silent man who continued to type on the computer. It took a few minutes for Donghae to register what had just happened when he exclaimed-
"OH GOD HE TALKED! Say it again!"
Henry met his eyes and merely turned away.
"YAH! I heard you talk!" He pointed at him as Shindong gave him an incredulous look.
"I didn't hear anything."
"He did! Look," He nudged Henry's shoulder. "Say it again." Nothing, he continued to nudge him but absolutely nothing. "Don't ignore me!"
"I think you just thought you heard it." Shindong said and looked at Henry. "Did you say anything?"
Henry shook his head as Donghae gaped. "...You liar!"
Shindong shook his head as he logged off his computer and out of the netcafe, Donghae continued to stare at Henry who met his eyes. Donghae leered at him. "I know you talked." He pointed suspiciously at him. "I heard you."
Henry looked down at the floor and Donghae's eyes followed his hand. Henry reached for the last chocolate piece between them, unwrapped it and ate it. With that he started to log off the computer and placed his things in the bag. He holstered it over his shoulder and got up from his seat as he walked out, Donghae hastily did the same and followed after him.
Donghae shook his head, somehow he lost him in the heap of people as he continued to search about. Just when he was about to give up, he recognized him near a coffee shop and froze completely.
Henry was actually moving his lips, and people were responding to him. The act alone made Donghae widened his eyes as he snuck his way near him without being spotted. He perked his ears and caught most of his words, hearing Henry speak so easily was quite strange. Also the people he was with, they were dressed in rather eccentric colors and odd hairstyles. He tilted his head when Henry waved them off and turned around. As soon as he left the coffee shop, Donghae followed him out and grabbed his shoulder.
"What was that?"
Henry furrowed his eyebrows at the arm on his shoulder.
"You actually talk to people? And you actually smile?!"
"...Yes..." Donghae bulged his eyes.
"This is impossible."
Henry shifted his eyes as he watched Donghae ran his fingers through his hair, completely not understanding the whole situation. Taking it to a extreme really, Donghae then tilted his head. "Why do you hang out with those type of people?"
"Mm?"
"Like," He attempted to gesture out his thoughts. "You don't exactly seem like their type, they're kind of... odd."
Henry shrugged. "I always get the weird ones." Donghae blinked as Henry explained. "They're usually the ones to try to talk to the quiet kid."
"Why?"
"...They see a quiet kid and go 'I'm so-and-so, I'm going to talk until you break.'" Donghae blinked again, Henry breathed out. "They see someone who doesn't talk and then chase."
"I don't understand those people." Donghae said as he loosely crossed his arms, Henry lowered his eyes.
"...I'm sure." He shook his head as he turned away.
"What do you mean?" Donghae asked as he knitted his eyebrows at his tone. "Hey!" He chased after him. "Say something!"
"No."
"Aish, would it kill you?"
"Yes." Donghae held back from smacking him upside the head. And instead pulled him against him. "I will hurt you one of these days."
"Take a number." Henry muttered, unsure of what to think of being held in such a way, yet shrugged it off, this was somehow usual to him.
"But there's definitely something I want to see," Donghae said, he pulled him in front of him and placed his hands on his shoulders. Henry blinked as he waited. "Make an expression."
Henry lowered his eyes.
"A better expression than that." Donghae whined. "I saw you smile to them! Try it with me." He said excitedly as he waited, Henry leered at the man before him who continued to watch him as if he was an exhibition. This was also somehow usual to him, other people would often demand odd things from him and though a smile was often one of them, it was different coming from this guy. Before he often found it a hassle how others had treated him, yet he preferred it when someone else took the initiative since he couldn't really. Though with such out-spoken friends, sometimes he wished they weren't so attentive.
Yet he found that he liked this guy's attention.
He locked eyes with him when he placed his finger on his own cheek and stuck out his tongue. Donghae immediately pulled back.
"Yah!" Donghae cried out, completely shaking his head disapprovingly at his gesture. Watching his somewhat exaggerated expression, Henry couldn't help but return a mischievous smile.

A/N: This is actually based on a true story that happened to me in class, with some tweaks of course (Though he really did take my Hershey kiss >o) Did anything happen between the two in real life? No, but HenHae might :)
