It was only a matter of time before everything fell into place - neatly, at least. But when that would occur, he remained clueless. He could only hope that it'd be soon.
Sungmin sighed as he walked listlessly through the mall, on his break, down with life and all of its glory that had yet to bestow itself on him. Just when he thought things couldn't get any worse, oblivious to his surroundings, he knocked into a drink that spilled all over his shirt.
"Just my luck." Sungmin muttered bitterly to himself.
"I'm sorry." The voice said quickly.
He looked up and felt his breathing ceased. Of all people that he could crashed into, it just had to be the man who worked at the kiosk right in front of the store he worked at. The same one he had his eye on ever since he started this job, hoping that those polite smiles they shared every now and then could mean more. The chances of that though, were realistically zero.
Eunhyuk grabbed some napkins and began to dry what he could. Sungmin was still speechless, mind yelling loudly that he should start a conversation of some sort. Yet, as always, the words just wouldn't come out.
"Am I doing something wrong?"
Sungmin's gaze reached his slightly confused ones as he felt his cheeks reddened. "No. Why do you ask?"
Eunhyuk's eyes glinted. "No reason."
In the back of his mind, he couldn't help but praised the drink, glad that he finally had some excuse to talk to him. "Its clear at least." Sungmin said, trying to sound optimistic. He noticed how Eunhyuk bit his bottom lip.
"I don't think I managed to get everything out." Sungmin looked down, thinking that his shirt seemed fine to him. "I need to take care of this somehow. I could get it dry-cleaned."
Sungmin shook his head. "It's fine."
"I still need to do something about it... I'll buy you a drink then."
"No really." Sungmin insisted politely. "My shirt's not ruined at all."
Eunhyuk crossed his arms and leaned back slightly. "Let's exchange numbers. Just in case your shirt is ruined later on." Sungmin still didn't understand even when Eunhyuk continued. "Or if dinner sounds more promising to you."
Sungmin blinked.
"I still think it'd be convenient. For the both of us."
"Are you..." Sungmin asked hesitantly. "Asking me out?"
Eunhyuk smirked. "Was I that obvious?" Sungmin nearly stumbled back, his reaction earning an earnest laugh. "Then would you like to?"
He could only wondered when his chances suddenly brightened. Sungmin could only nod his head, unable to utter a single word. He remained silent as they exchanged phone numbers.
The moment Eunhyuk stared at the save set on his cell's screen, he grinned. "I'll call you then."
Sungmin chuckled nervously, "I'll... I'll do the same." He soon returned to work with a now jaunty step. Still on cloud nine as he clocked out of his break, thinking that life may not be as bad as he initially thought it to be.
"You didn't."
Eunhyuk acted oblivious to Yesung's pointed finger; a co-worker from the neighboring kiosk. "I know I dared you to finally start a conversation with him but that was-"
"That was nothing more than me accidentally spilling lemonade on his shirt." He demonstrated the casual tipping of his drink as he explained. "That was all." Eunhyuk finished, smiling mischievously as he turned his back on him.
Yesung doubted that, often a witness of his quick reflexes, that somehow seemed to have failed today. Eunhyuk returned to work, humming, pleased with himself.
Eunhyuk playfully juggled the phone in his hand triumphantly. From the corner of his eye, he could see Sungmin looking at his direction, and turned. Met with the same polite, but now nervous smile, paired with a subtle blush.
Soon, every piece would fall exactly where they should be.
Exactly as how they both wanted.
