Sungmin hurried over to the dorm in an excited rush, he opened the door and called out Kibum’s name. When he heard no response, he looked around before recognizing sounds coming from Kibum’s bedroom.
He opened his door and grinned as he held up the object in his hand. “Look! Kibum, I rented a movie.” Sungmin said as he scurried over towards him. “See, it’s about pirates and-”
Kibum dropped the controller on the floor and startled Sungmin. “Heechul, you’re supposed to cover my left.” He said, despite the energy of the game he continued on with his monotone voice.
Sungmin heard some profanities through the headset on Kibum’s head.
“Stop arguing and-- never-mind.” Sungmin watched as the screen during black, it was apparent that they lost.
Sungmin tried his luck once again. “K-Kibum, look, I got the pirate m-movie we wanted to see-”
“Kyuhyun, stop crying, we lost only one battle.” Kibum sighed.
Sungmin took a deep breath. “Kibum! Since you’re done-”
“Heechul, you weren’t any help either. Yes, I do blame you.” Kibum continued with his lackluster tone of voice. More profanities were heard from the headset.
Sungmin was losing his patience. “Kibum.” He said lightly, failing to mask his frustration. “I rented-”
“We can try this again later when-ow.” Kibum turned around with a slightly shocked look on his face.
Sungmin had his eyes narrowed, the DVD still in his hands after he whacked it over Kibum’s head. “Hmph!” He stomped off out of the room and slammed the door.
Sungmin pouted as he sat down in the kitchen and glared into the movie he placed in front of him.
“Is there a reason you’re in our dorm and not yours?” Shindong asked as he strolled into the kitchen holding his laptop, he then laughed. “Oh wait, got into a fight with Kibum?”
Sungmin slowly nodded.
“Mmm, I thought your relationship would’ve lasted longer.” He commented as he opened his laptop.
Sungmin looked up with widened eyes. “W-we didn’t break up.” Shindong made an ‘o’ shape on his lips. “Why would you think we broke up?”
“You’re not exactly compatible.” Shindong said as he typed into his computer. “He’s quiet and completely expressionless, I think you’re too much energy for him to handle. You two are not as simple as saying yellow and blue make green, you’re more like pink and brown making… Not as a pretty of a color.” He said uneasily.
Shindong locked eyes with Sungmin. “Just remember go easy on him, he’s trying.” With that he closed his laptop and left the kitchen, leaving Sungmin to sulk in his chair.
They weren’t compatible and he knew that, but Kibum placed him first at least. After Starcraft, and acting, and Hankyung and Heechul…
Sungmin sighed; he barely noticed the door opening and entered a cautious Kibum.
Sungmin looked up and narrowed his eyebrows, his pout returned as he looked away.
“Sorry.” Kibum said, Sungmin expected an explanation but Kibum said nothing further. He looked back and Kibum was just staring at the floor, his hands in his pockets, at a complete loss of what to do.
What Shindong said repeated in his mind, he was a bit of a handle he admitted. Kibum was monotone, quiet and it was rare for him to show any expression whatsoever. He needed to at least tone himself down a bit, and hopefully bring out more in Kibum in return. He smiled when he realized what it probably took for Kibum to even follow him there.
Sungmin looked from the corner of his eye at Kibum’s still pose. What he would give to see even a smile from Kibum.
He got up and walked towards Kibum who remained frozen on the spot. Sungmin tilted his head and looked up at his stolid expression. He brought up the movie to his eye level.
“I rented this for both of us to watch it.” Sungmin said with a smile. Kibum looked from the movie to his face, as if questioning if there was any motive behind it. Sungmin laughed lightly and reached for Kibum’s hand.
“Let’s go!” He said eagerly as he pulled him alongside him.
Sungmin only wanted to see that one smile; if he had looked back would he have noticed the subtle yet dramatic change in Kibum’s expression. The once dormant expression was now overshadowed by the two corners of his lips that had twitched upwards.
It revealed a small, yet delighted smile.
