How do you feel about retroactive edits?

I'm going through my old fics, deciding what to abandon permanently and what to take up again. And reading through them, most of them I am supremely unhappy with, or want to take in a new direction. I am moving everything over to AO3, slowly, so I will be doing some minor editing in the process

I'm a bit of a lurker but if you don't mind I'd like to throw my two cents in.

I do agree with the other commenter it is your fic and you can do what you want, however I also think it's nice to keep the original version for people that prefer that version. (Just think of the Star Wars fans raging at George Lucas over changes)

In general I say as long as the original is still available have fun exploring new avenues.

Yeah, I'd probably leave the originals up, if only because I'm too lazy to go and back-edit all of them or delete them from my LJ.

Like the other people who commented have said, it's your fic so you can do what you want. I've definitely seen people do rewrites of their fics so you wouldn't be not alone. Keeping the original available might be a good idea but it's up to you.

Eh, mixed feelings about my originals but I'll probably keep them up out of sheer laziness if nothing else.

I'm sad at the "abandon permanently" but I'd be thrilled to see new fic even if it's rewrites. I would love to have the originals still up. Some of my favorite writers have done rewrites and I really disliked the changes, but the originals had been taken down.

Will you be putting up a list of which fics will be continued and which will be abandoned? I'm terribly curious and rather resigned about my favorite being abandoned.

(In case you don't recognize me, I've been lurking around your fic since the Merlin bug first bit me, but only commented once! I feel so ashamed...)

I know I'm abandoning "Burning The Darkness" for sure, and I'm going forward with Beside Me for sure. Journey Through a Broken Soul, Primogeniture, and Lineage are all up in the air.

Also thinking up picking up some fics from other fandoms I've left abandoned for several years, now, and where I've left the fandom entirely! \o/
