How do I get the text option back? There used to be a menu to add text and now it's just gone! HELP PLEASE!

Mine doesn't work either!!!! I've been trying to figure it out for ages so i can type on applications but I don't know how!!! ::cries::

I used to have a pulldown menu and it is now gone! GRRRRR!
