I've got that particular ache of the heart that comes with watching the very last episode of a television series and knowing those characters will never say anything new to you again. Yeah, Nick is adorable for the first few episodes, but quickly becomes super-creepy. I still love him - the actor delivers his lines pricelessley, etc etc, but. Wow.

One of the things I love about Nick (and Ken, and a few of the others) is that he's not the sort of character you usually see on tv, but he totally feels like about half the guys I actually knew in high school. All his facets and flaws are kind of messy and don't quite fit together. And also he has really bad hair.

Nick is like a lot of the guys I knew it high school too. Ken too, yeah. Even Daniel, who's of course a stereotype in a lot of ways, feels like a very real character to me. I'm thinking especially of the episode where Lindsay helps him cheat on his math test because he feeds her that woobie-tastic sob story: "How do you think that feels, huh? To be told you're dumb when you're ELEVEN YEARS OLD?" A story that, while maybe based in reality, is at the end of the day shown to be an awesome pile of crap.
I think a lot of similar shows would have just played the woobie card and left it at that, which wouldn't have been nearly as fun.

You should see if you can get Undeclared on DVD, it was the show that Judd Apatow did after F&G and while not in the same league, has a few familiar faces in it.

And thanks, I've added Undeclared to my amazon wish list. Once I start working in the next few months I have a feeling my dvd library will be growing exponentially!
