I hurt in places I don't even have!

D-Day has finally been reached. After all our work, the little man came around last night, hammered a couple of stakes in the ground and mounted a sign on them that says "For Sale".

This is why I've been pretty quiet for the last little while, especially since 1 January. It's been a hard slog that I have referred to before and which has consumed most of the last year. We haven't made any structural changes to the place - the decks were done several years ago, and the garden was landscaped in 2005 (although it ran away on us last winter and required a couple of working bees by family to bring it back under control) - but we have done a fair amount of redecorating. All wallpaper removed and walls painted, all ceilings painted, bathroom ripped out and replaced (not really structural but by god it needed doing!), all trim repainted, cupboards, doors, new lino and carpet - top to toe, just about.

The kitchen got some special attention, with new light fittings (lovely down-lights that mean you're not working in your own shadow anymore), refurbished benches and cupboards and the aforementioned lino. I'm particularly proud of the benches. One I remodeled after ripping up the formica and replacing it with planking, the other I replaced the melamine bench-top with a slab of pine. Both got Danish oil treatment and polyurethaned.

I seriously <3 Danish oil It makes for a very solid and hard-wearing surface. I have also used it on the bathroom and toilet floors. It makes for a wonderful finish.

I also <3 Bunnings Warehouse in Porirua. Time spent there is not wasted, even if I don't buy anything (like *that* ever happens!). My store of power tools has largely come from there, or from Placemakers in Kaiwharawhara and they're great for fittings, timber, tiles, garden furniture etc.. Mrs Lemming has also succumbed to the temptations (and is planning to move onto power tools next - I hope she's prepared to buy her own!) and we have spent a lot of time there happily saying, we'll have one of these in our next house" ;-)

And now der tag is here and the house is on the market. It was supposed to be agents' viewing today (11-12) and buyers from tomorrow, but about 12 agents showed up at 9:30 this morning as we were about to go out. Our own agents, Debbie and Ricky, have told us that there has been a lot of interest from agents so we're hopeful that they'll bring a lot of people through. I suggested moving to a hotel for the duration of the tender, but we need to keep the place clean and feeling 'home-y'. Funnily, we both feel that it isn't home anymore and are really looking forward to the next place, which will be up the Kapiti Coast somewhere.

Can't wait.
