If it's any consolation, Alice in Wonderland never had a sequel right? Nor did the Fox and the Hound (I think), Snow White, Robin Hood, etc. So not everything's been sequelized.
If you don't want sequels, there is a soultion: Don't see the original. Think about it. Whenever an original movie comes out, if the ending is left the slightest bit open-ended, you can almost be on seeing a sequel (or remake) of it sometime in the future. However, if a movie fails to gain any large or respectable box office numbers don't plan on seeing another one. Why is a production company going to throw good money after bad producing a movie isn't cheap. (Although the production values in some movies today would have you thinking otherwise.)
The moral: If you really like a movie, don't see it...if you don't want the potential of it being ruined later on.
But what about Elektra? I didn't want a sequel for that but I saw it...and it flopped. I guess sometimes things have a way of working out :)...for the best. lol
