it's a true story
but maybe you can read it
as an uplifting fairy tale

and then one day after the umpteenth guy
i had had enough of being an old man's darling

i wanted to be an old woman's darling
I wanted a woman whose beauty grew

Wow - for me, thank you!
That is a wonderful story. Yes, uplifting as a fairytale - and even more so as the story is true. I don't think I have the courage to put an ad in the papers! But it makes me smile to think that one response could lead to something wonderful.

:-) Yes, placing that ad was one of the more unusual things I have done. It started as a bit of a joke and experiment, to see if any women would respond. But when I saw her, I knew and I also knew I would have a chance with her.
If I had been taking myself serious when I placed the ad, I wouldn't have had the courage either. My mother once made a throwaway remark about me being an old man's darling, which is very true. I wrote a column about that and as a joke put that ad (slightly different) at the bottom of the column. As time passed I started to think what would happen if I really placed that ad...
I still have quite a few negative opinions about wanting older women so I probably never would have considered placing one if I hadn't done it as a joke first. I'm glad I did though.
I didn't write this to say, you should place an ad but more, as I said, to share a hopefully uplifting story of all the unexpected ways happiness can present itself. And if it was a little uplifting, then I'm glad.

Absolutely, I believe that happiness usually present itself in unexpected ways, and I wouldn't try to copy someone else's method -- because then I would have expectations and it wouldn't be the same...
