glad to see you tackling that spatial rhet! keturandrea January 18 2006, 16:59:02 UTC
Congratulations. Mine are still in process (the 17th C. woman sonneteer as her own object using the sonnets of Lady Mary Wroth is my sample work.) but i'm applying to get out of all that lit and into writing. PhD in creative non-fiction's my first choice. got a meeting with UofM's Grad English chairperson next Thursday. guh, Almost there....doesn't quite cut it. but for now, it's what i've got. i'll ring you soon.

oh and maybe when i've got more time ::dubious looks:: i can read your paper? i'm really interested to see what research you used and how you handled the topic. and while we're at it, why you chose such local space for discourse?

Just let me know when you have (heh-heh) time to read the paper and I'll send it to you. I chose a local space because of the massive amount of primary text at my fingertips. If I had done LA, which is still in future plans (albeit distant ones), it would have been impossible to find what I found here, and of little interest to college professors in Columbus. So basically it was a pragmatic decision, but I have really enjoyed the project. The hours I've sunk into it have endeared it to me ( ... )

conflicting reports keturandrea January 26 2006, 12:22:24 UTC
that sounds about right. my interview is today--about 40 mins. i'm still conflicted enough to be applying for jobs the wide world over. keep praying. uncertain ends make my stomach churn.
i keep you hilsts in my good thoughts and prayers. hope you're doing alright.

i'm virtually directionless if it's an english Phd i want. this narrowing it down to writing suits me much better. i still get antsy though. as if somethings telling me to get out before i make myself miserable or get out before i realize i've forfeited a smidgen more of my future over to a system i still don't quite endorse.

words, words, words....

i miss you and liz terribly.

i do have a circle of kiddos
who are dear, dear, dear to my heart--
you know the ones--
you will be able to call them "friends"
in a couple of years?

and they do make a hard day worthwhile...

a buddy of mine from highschool did his undergrad at clemson and i got to go with their family to drop him off- the campus is beautiful. absolutely beautiful area. and the drive down takes you through countryside so breathtaking it makes you wonder why anybody lives north of missouri. if you ever had to pull a sight-unseen, it'd be to go to clemson.

fyi: the guy who started the hooters restuarants went to clemson. that's why the hooters uniform is orange and white...

dear Lord don't tell that last factoid to my wife or I'll be a no-studying-in-South-Carolina-fool ;-)

Thanks for the encouragement though.

Your off to acquire that half-crazed gleam that shines from the eyes of all PhDs.
Good luck with that. I think you'll wear it well.

Glad to read that the Ohio chapter of the Scandi-family is doing so well. When will we see you again in the Golden State? Soon I hope.

Keep the Faith.
Fight the Good Fight.
Once more to the BREACH!!!

Man do I ever envy you. What a killer ride bro. I can imagine you look pretty good on it too. Don't go causin accidents everywhere with all the female heads doing triple takes at the blond stud on the black bike. It's gotta be great with the gas mileage too. And I can imagine you're pretty handy fixing a bike. Time to start reading Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance! Thanks for your kind words. We hope to be out by September at the latest. Liz's brother is getting married. If nothing else, she'll be out there with Meredith. Still fighting the good fight in newsprint? Saw the Doc and Woody out here recently. He speaks glowingly of you (you know, in a Doc sorta way).

Once more indeed my friend...
