Homeschooling???

Okay, my husband and I are thinking about homeschooling our daughter next school year for Kindergarten...The main reason is, we dont like the curriculum that the state of GA has set up for K students...The other reasons are that he comes home for RnR in late September for 2 weeks and then we will be moving to Colorado in the middle of the school

My mom is a TA for kindergarten, and has been for 11 years, so I asked her. :) I would recommend getting her into some kind of recreation (sport, club, etc) so she can also meet and socialize with some other kids her age (if you haven't already). That's pretty much the gist of kindergarten.

What's up with GA's curriculum that you don't like? I only ask because Chris and I are going to try to go back to Stewart after recruiting, which would make Gavin a school-age kid. :)

I just dont like the fact that she already knows everything that they would be trying to teach her and that they are unwilling to give her extra work to keep her occupied...We are currently dealing with her PreK that decided since she couldnt keep her mouth shut and let other kids answer the questions about the weather and calendar last Friday, that she was being disruptive and was no longer allowed to participate in their Christmas party (20 minutes before the party started) and that i needed to pick her up because the teacher didnt want to feel guilty about not letting her participate...they have alot of after school programs around her that allow home schooled kids to attend "after school hours" are over...its more like I dont like that they dont help the smart kids and teach to the kids who know nothing instead...all of the kids in her class just turned 4 (between June and September 1) and she will be 5 in January!!! but because of her birthday, she cant start kindergarten until next year, even though she really should be there

That is such crap. Just because she's smart she's not being included in class activities--I'd want to homeschool her too!

Is there a way you can see if she can skip a grade and go right to first? It sounds like she is mature enough.

not sure...i will have to call the school board and ask!! If I homeschool her during the summer and she gets through Kindergarten, I might be able to put her in 1st grade next school year...thats a thought!! :D
