Okay... paid the rediculous price for the new Krylon Plastic Fusion spray paint (I usually just buy the .98 cent stuff at Walmart when I need spray paint) because I was going to spray paint on a plastic bucket... one of those square buckets that cat litter comes in...
I have to report that I'm very dissapointed in the product.  The commercial makes ( Read more... )

Phooey, because I had a very similar plan! I would rather do that than buy another plastic bucket for the food, and I don't like keeping it in the bag. Alas, I don't like my cat food container to say "litter" on it.

"I don't like keeping it in the bag"
My cats will tear through the bag (regardless of whether their food dish is full or not - 'grass is greener' thing I guess!)

I know! I reuse the litter buckets for all kinds of things (container gardening mostly - they're great for pepper & tomato plants!!)
I used one for my bird seed mix for the outdoor feeders (keeps the squirels out so far!) and I've actually had much more satisfying results doing it the old way...

1.) lightly scuff up surface with fine grit sandpaper (220)

2.) spray two LIGHT coats of spray paint primer onto object - making sure to let dry between coats

3.) spray 2-3 LIGHT coats of desired color over primer

4.) stencil design if desired, finish with 1-2 coats of clear gloss to protect stenciled work

this is the method I used for the container that holds my bird seed. I stenciled a simple "Bird Seed" on it in block letters - & it came out MUCH better than the Fusion stuff!!! That stuff was SO not worth the $3.78 ( ... )

Thanks! Well, I'll do that, then. Yeah, I wanted to do it for bird seed, too. We have a big yard, so I wasn't planning on doing a whole lot of container gardening this year, otherwise that would be an excellent use, too.

I actually have a yard in the place I'm renting - but the landlord doesn't want it dug up for gardening. Which wasn't a big deal for me either way because I've done container gardening for the last 5 years with great results. So I have my painted containers along the fence & side of the sunporch. It also means I have "raised beds" so there's less pest & weed problems
